14 - We're Unpredictable

Niall had been doing his French homework - he'd gotten considerably better thanks to Harry, who was currently hanging out with Louis - when Ashton appeared. He was alone, which lead Niall to believe Luke was hovering over Harry. Niall put his pen down and looked up at Ashton expectantly, who still looked as stressed out as he had been for the past few days. His hair was slightly longer than it was months ago, he had a slight beard on his face and his eyes looked tired and exhausted. He was no longer smiley and happy-go-lucky, and that worried Niall.

"Hey Ash," Niall smiled at the hazel eyed guardian in front of him. "What's up?"

"I need to talk to you about something urgent," Ashton said, and immediately Niall could sense the tension. He sat up, showing Ashton that he was listening intently.

"Alright, what about?"

"You and Harry." At that, Niall frowned. "There's been a...glitch. Your...perspectives are changing. I'm sure you've noticed how you and Harry can see each other in your own bodies, yes?"

Niall nodded; he couldn't decipher where Ashton was going with this.

"Exactly. The reason I haven't been around as of much lately is because I've been arguing with The Council about your case."

Niall's frown deepened. "I still don't understand?"

"The Council has considered dropping yours and Harry's case," Ashton sighed, rubbing his forehead in frustration. "They want to put the two of you back into your respective bodies."

"That's great news!" Niall exclaimed, but his excitement quickly died when he saw that Ashton's face was still grim. Niall frowned again. "Isn't it?"

Ashton avoided his gaze. "No Niall, it isn't."

"But we'll be back in our bodies," Niall protested, huffing slightly. "Correct me if I'm wrong, but I'm pretty sure you haven't been in another person's body for almost two months, now have you?"

Ashton sighed, ignoring Niall's question. "Niall, if yours and Harry's case gets dropped, The Council will have the ability to reverse anything that has happened in the last two months. Neither of you will remember anything that has happened, and everything will go back to how it was before two months ago."

Niall's eyes widened as what Ashton was trying to tell him sunk in.

That meant he wouldn't know who Ashton and Luke were. He, Liam and Josh wouldn't be sitting with Zayn, Louis and Harry. They wouldn't be getting along. He and Harry wouldn't be on a truce. The school would still be halved in two. Niall wouldn't have met Andy. Louis possibly wouldn't have been captain of the footie team. Liam and Louis wouldn't be together until possibly another few months of torturous skinny love. His mother wouldn't have a job.

But what Niall thought was most important to him than any other thing listed above (next to his mother getting a job) was something that actually shocked him.

That he and Harry wouldn't be friends.

At least, he liked to think that they were, in some kind of way, friends. They were getting along better, and things were almost reverting to how they were before. Not completely, of course, but there was something there that both of them felt. Things between the two do them were easier, and Niall didn't want to give that up just yet.
