"That's all I wanted," Y/N said, reaching out to caress her cheek. "To be understood." His thumb brushed away the tears that still stained her face, his touch sending a jolt of revulsion through her body.
Evelyn felt the sculpture almost slip from her grasp, as she stumbled backward. "No," she choked out, her voice a hoarse whisper. "You're not going to do this to me."
Y/N's smile grew sadder, his eyes never leaving hers. "Evelyn," he murmured, his voice a cocktail of pity and disappointment. "You're just making this harder for both of us."
He took a step closer, his hand reaching out again. This time, she didn't recoil. Instead, she stared at his outstretched hand, her mind racing with the horror of what she had to do. She knew that if she took it, she would be back under his control, back in the prison of his twisted love. But if she didn't, she might never escape.
With a trembling hand, she placed the sculpture on the coffee table, the sound of it hitting the wood echoing through the room. She stepped closer to him, her eyes never leaving his. He looked surprised, his smile faltering for just a moment before regaining its composure. "That's my girl," he murmured, his voice thick with relief.
He leaned in, his breath hot against her cheek, and kissed her. His lips were soft, his touch gentle, almost tender. For a brief moment, she allowed herself to be lost in the illusion, to pretend that none of this had ever happened. But as his kiss grew more insistent, his hands roaming over her body, she felt the bile rise in her throat. She pushed him away with a strength she didn't know she had.
"No," she said firmly, her voice shaking. "This isn't love. This is...this is obsession."
Y/N's smile slipped, his eyes narrowing in frustration. "Evelyn," he warned, his voice dropping to a dangerous whisper. "You're not making this easy for me."
Evelyn took a deep breath, her heart racing in her chest. "Get out," she managed, her voice shaking but firm. "I don't ever want to see you again."
Y/N's smile grew thinner, his eyes cold. "I can't do that, darling," he said, his voice a serrated knife. "You see, once you start playing this game, there's no going back."
Evelyn's heart was racing, but she kept her voice steady. "I don't care," she said, her eyes never leaving his. "I told them the truth, all of it. If that's what it takes to be free of you, so be it."
Y/N's smile grew cold, his eyes flashing with anger. "You don't get it, do you?" he hissed, his grip on her arms tightening. "You're mine, Evelyn. You've always been mine."
Evelyn's eyes searched his, desperation clutching at her heart. "What do you want from me?" she whispered, her voice trembling.
Y/N's grip on her arms loosened, his smile a cold, cruel curve. "It's simple, darling," he said, his voice a silky purr. "You just have to take back what you told the police. Tell them it was all a misunderstanding, a terrible mistake."
Evelyn felt the color drain from her face, his words a cold, hard slap of reality. "You're mad," she whispered, her voice shaking. "They won't believe me."
Y/N's smile grew colder, his eyes never leaving hers. "They'll believe you," he said with a confidence that chilled her to the bone. "Because you're good at playing the game, aren't you, darling?" His grip on her arms tightened, his fingers digging into her skin. "You've always been good at playing along."
Evelyn felt a shiver of fear run down her spine. She knew he was right. She had played his games before, allowing his manipulation to weave a web of doubt around her until she didn't know what was real and what was a twisted figment of his imagination. But this time, she had to be stronger. She had to break free.
Taking a deep breath, she met his gaze, her voice steady. "I can't do that," she said, her voice firm despite the tremble in her hands. "I can't lie for you anymore."
Y/N's smile grew brittle, his eyes flashing with a cold fury that sent a shiver down her spine. "You don't have a choice," he hissed, his grip on her arms tightening. "You're either with me or against me, Evelyn. And if you're against me..."
He didn't need to finish the sentence. The implication hung in the air, a noose tightening around her neck. But Evelyn had made her choice. She had seen the monster beneath the mask, and she knew she could never go back to the way things were. "I can't," she whispered, her voice trembling with fear and resolve.
Y/N's smile slipped, his grip on her arms turning painful. "You're making a mistake," he hissed, his eyes narrowing to slits. "You think you can just walk away from this?"
Evelyn swallowed hard, her fear a living thing coiled in her chest. "I can't live like this," she said, her voice shaking. "I can't be with someone who...who does the things you do."
Y/N's grip on her arms tightened, his eyes a cold, flat line. "Then you leave me no choice," he murmured, his voice a lethal whisper. He released her suddenly, and she stumbled back, her legs threatening to give way beneath her.
He turned and strode out of the room, leaving her trembling in the living room. The silence was deafening, the only sound the echo of his footsteps retreating down the hallway. For a moment, she dared to hope that he had left, that she was finally free. But she knew better.
Evelyn took a shaky breath and followed the sound of his retreating footsteps, her legs unsteady beneath her. She found him in the bedroom, rummaging through a drawer. He looked up as she entered, his eyes cold, his smile a mere memory. "You know what you have to do," he said, his voice a whip crack.
Her heart hammered in her chest, but she nodded, her voice barely audible. "Take it back," she murmured, her mind racing with the implications of her agreement. "I'll take it back."
Y/N's smile grew, his eyes gleaming with a dark triumph. "You will?" he echoed, his voice a mix of surprise and excitement.
Evelyn nodded, her heart racing. "I will," she murmured, the words tasting bitter in her mouth.
