Unsweetened Lemonade, Amélie Farren
Bitch Came Back, Theory Of A Deadman (If only for its title)
Grabbing their room key off the kitchen table, Y/n headed out of their apartment for a walk, just like they did every morning. It was Saturday, so no work at the Mystery Shack, though they'd stop by to greet their friends anyway.
Gravity Falls may have been a small, middle-of-nowhere town, but that everyone knew everyone else; Y/n waved or nodded to just about every person they passed on the sidewalk (except those they disliked, of course, of whom there were several). Gazing out at the seemingly endless forest past the houses, Y/n found themself in a reminiscent mood.
They'd first come to Gravity falls a few years ago in an effort to avoid their parents, who of course would never bother traveling this far just to see them. They'd first befriended some of the townsfolk relatively quickly, once the people accepted this newcomer. Soon, Y/n became just another part of the chaotic town, their own strange traits blending right in. Their first job, which they've somehow managed to keep all this time, was at the Mystery Shack, under a certain Stanley Pines.
Y/n had been living in Gravity Falls for almost a year when Dipper and Mabel had come to visit, and gotten with them, sometimes even joining the twelve-year-old twins on their adventures, mostly on the weekends or after work.
Which meant, of course, that they'd been there with the Pines during Weirdmageddon, when Bill Cipher had tried to take over the world—well, more accurately, tried to take over Gravity Falls, since he and his magic were confined to the town. Having originally been hiding with Wendy (and Toby Determined), Y/n had helped the Pines to get rid of the triangular demon. Despite their original doubts, it had been two years since then, so it seemed like the town and the world were finally safe from him.
Y/n was pulled out of their thoughts as they realized that they were coming near the Mystery Shack; they smiled to themself as the familiar, somewhat dilapidated old building came into view.
"Right on time, Y/n!" Mabel called from the front door of the Shack with her usual bright smile.
"You know me," Y/n replied, watching as Mabel picked up Waddles the little pig and carried him over.
"Waddles missed you," she declared, holding him up.
Of course, as expected, Y/n patted his head gently. "I missed you too, Waddles."
"Mabel!!" Dipper yelled from inside. "Why is the kitchen such a mess? And what's in the oven?"
"I'm making cupcakes!" She replied.
"They're on fire!"
"Oh– coming!" Still carrying Waddles, Mabel dashed back towards the Shack. "See you later, Y/n!" She called with a quick wave, which Y/n returned, before disappearing inside. Shaking their head and laughing quietly to themself, Y/n kept walking their usual route through the forest, passing by the familiar pine trees, flowers, and berry bushes.
It was another few minutes, deep into the forest, before they heard it; the crunch of dead leaves under a pair of feet that weren't theirs. They stopped, but the other steps didn't. Y/n looked around, stopping when they caught a glimpse of yellow behind a few trees.
Slowly, Y/n moved through the trees, one hand drawing a pocket knife and flipping it quietly open. They paused, then pushed aside a tree branch, and their eyes met his.
