Someone being described as a breath of fresh air is something that everyone has experienced. Evelyn Rubio had always been compared to that same thing, but mostly in theory and not in how she actually was. At 24 years old- she was ambitious, startling, and unaware of how her presence could make a man crumble. At just over 5 feet and 120 pounds most underestimated her ability to make them fall head over heels for her. Her powerful family controlled most of the business and interactions in the small town of Rocky in North Carolina. The generational wealth has transferred throughout the entire line of Windwards and has luckily reached Evelyn.
"How do you plan to continue living in these apartments, Evelyn?" her brother Antonio asked.
"Well unless dad is cutting me off, I plan to continue as I have been. There is a luxury of being a writer. One of these books will take off, I am sure of it"
"Must be nice to always and forever be daddy's little princess"
Antonio had always held some remorse for the unfairness of how their parents acted towards their perfect Evelyn and their rambunctious Antonio. Evelyn was always the social one, the one with the good friends, and good influences around, but Antonio was much the opposite. The bond between them is unbreakable though, because regardless of how their parents act, they have always confided in each other.
Evelyn sat behind her desk ready to get going on her newest book. Some drug filled, love influenced, and toxic sex story all so far from her reality.
She started typing :
The way that he made her feel almost broke her into pieces.
"Ugh. That does not sound right at all. How would someone break into pieces while reading a note?"
She started typing once again:
She has never experienced the way her heart skips a beat whenever he looks at her.
"Okay this is pointless. I need to reset with a coffee. Are you coming with Antonio?"
"Mhm"
With that, they were off in her red pickup truck. It was completely renovated on the inside, but if you saw the outside you would think it was just picked up from the junkyard. The surprise would take everyone by storm the moment that they stepped into her beloved vehicle, but it was a soft spot for Evelyn. The red exterior similar to the color of her hair, and the green accents on the inside matching her eyes, it felt like her twin outside of her body.
"Uh, are you going to start driving or what?
"You know, you are much more appealing to be around when you don't speak"
"Well what fun would that be?"
The drive to the closest coffee shop was around 7 minutes and in that time it was completely silent. While Antonio stared at the passing cars, Evelyn pondered how being in love actually felt. She had never personally experienced it, she had relationships sure, but nothing encompassing, nothing fulfilling. That is something that she was determined to change, at the very least to become a better writer. The question remained who could she turn to? The time for that decision would come later, but first coffee.
The usual order of a latte with 2 pumps of vanilla came by in a flash. Antonio never orders anything, but goes just for the 'vibes' or so he says. The cafe is a small mom and pop shop with two local boys who work as the baristas. Both of them resemble Calvin Klein models, but seem to be happy as can be making coffees next to one another. The two workers have brown hair, tattoos, and an air of irresponsibility waving through the air around them. The tall one is named Joey and the short one is named Adam, both of them work here all of the time.
