Emerging from the alley, Toji, Satella, and Puck strolled through the bustling streets, weaving around people as they started their search. Toji reflected on what had just happened. He was still bothered by the unwanted desire to protect Satella. This "contract" was unlike anything he had experienced before. It gnawed at him, pulling at his instincts in ways that didn't sit right.

Alongside the confusion of this entire world, he felt something else stirring within him—an unfamiliar energy coursing through his body. He couldn't explain it, but it was there, lurking beneath the surface. Once this business with Satella was done, he'd have to ask her more about it. Given her unique abilities, she probably knew a lot more than that thug he had interrogated earlier.

The alleyways of the capital soon gave way to wider streets, crowded with merchants and townsfolk going about their day. The hum of voices and the clatter of horse-drawn carts filled the air, but Toji's attention was elsewhere. He couldn't shake the feeling of that strange energy inside him.

Puck, floating lazily beside Satella, shot a casual glance at Toji. "You seem deep in thought. Something on your mind?" the cat-like spirit asked, though his tone carried a hint of suspicion.

Toji ignored the creature's probing, his eyes continuously scanning the bustling market, tracking potential threats or signs of the thief. This world had too many unknowns for him to relax.

Satella, walking just beside him, cast a quick look at Toji. "You're quieter than before," she observed. "Is something bothering you?"

Toji considered his response. He wasn't about to reveal too much, but he needed answers. "There's something strange about this place," he muttered, his voice low, meant only for her to hear. "I can feel... something inside me. It wasn't there before."

"Something?" Satella echoed, her curiosity piqued. "What do you mean?"

Toji frowned, still grappling with how to put it into words. It was as if there were some kind of energy inside him. It couldn't be cursed energy—he was born with absolutely none of that. So what was this unfamiliar force stirring within him?

Toji contemplated for a moment, then refocused on their task. "Whatever, it's not that important right now."

Straightening up, he looked down at Satella and asked, "So, what exactly are we looking for?"

Satella glanced back at Toji. "It's my insignia. It has a jewel in the center and is about this big." She held her fingers up, indicating the size of the insignia, her shoulders stiffening as she said, "It's very important to me, and I need to get it back."

Toji noted the shape and recalled the girl who had passed by him previously in the alley. She was most likely the one who had it, meaning they'd have to find her.

"I see," he replied. "Got no clue where it is right now, though."

Satella's posture deflated somewhat at his words. "Oh..."

"But," Toji continued, his voice maintaining its calm, monotone demeanor, "it shouldn't be too hard. That brat from earlier most likely has it."

"Oh! That's good then," Satella said, a glimmer of hope in her eyes.

Toji sighed and quickened his pace, effortlessly moving ahead of Satella with a few easy strides. "I'll keep my end of the deal, but try not to slow me down."

"Slow you down...?" she echoed in confusion, stopping in her tracks. She watched as Toji carelessly navigated through the street, bumping into people and rapidly outpacing her. Realizing he had no intention of waiting, Satella hurried to catch up.

Her breath became labored as she increased her speed, struggling to match Toji's effortless stride. Just as she was about to slow down, she tripped on an uneven part of the street.
