Originally I was going to put the finale of Arc 1 into this chapter, but I've decided to just cut it into two parts instead and publish the second one later. since this chapter is pushing 12k words. You could say this is 80% of the original final chapter and the next chapter will be the other 20%.
"How do you know that I stole an insignia? I don't imagine the one who requested it would have leaked it, and I only just stole it. It certainly isn't the sort of thing you'd just happen to hear."
Felt's hand instinctively moved to her chest, where the insignia was presumably hidden. The subtle shift in her posture revealed her growing wariness, her gaze now fixed on Toji with more intensity.
Toji chuckled softly, shaking his head. "I've got my ways. Doesn't matter who told me, or how I found out. What matters is that I know, and I'm willing to pay for it."
Felt's eyes narrowed, clearly not buying the vagueness of his answer. "That's not good enough. If you're planning to pull a fast one on me, I'll make sure you regret it."
But Toji remained calm, unfazed by her thinly veiled threat. He could see the gears turning in her head, trying to figure out who this strange man was and why he was so interested in a stolen trinket.
Felt squinted, trying to read Toji's eyes, but they were like an impenetrable wall—cold, unreadable, masking any intentions he might have. She clicked her tongue in frustration before speaking.
"You're not the woman who made the request," she said, her voice sharp with suspicion. "But if I can make a profit off it, I don't care. Are you a business rival or something?"
Toji smirked slightly at the mention of the woman, knowing full well it was Elsa she was referring to. He leaned back slightly, crossing his arms.
"In a way, you could say that," he replied smoothly, keeping his expression neutral. "But don't worry, I'm not here to steal your clients. I just want the insignia, and I'll pay for it fair and square."
Felt shrugged, her eyes narrowing slightly as she considered the offer. "Alright, negotiate away then," she said, leaning back and crossing her arms, still keeping a firm grip on the knife.
Toji calmly reached into his pocket and pulled out his flip phone, holding it up for her to see. The sleek, unfamiliar device caught Felt's attention immediately, her eyes widening a little in curiosity.
"This," Toji began, flipping it open with a casual motion, "is worth over 20 holy coins. It's a metia, and its quite rare around here. And if you're still not convinced..." He turned the phone's camera towards Felt, snapping a quick picture of her. The flash caught her off guard, making her flinch slightly.
Felt leaned in, her eyes narrowing at the device in Toji's hand, a mix of wonder and skepticism playing across her features. "...Doesn't look like you're lying. But is this supposed to be me? I think I'm prettier than this."
"Are you sure this thing is worth over twenty holy coins?" she asked, her tone teasing.
"Yeah, and that woman was offering you only twenty for such a valuable item?" Toji shot back, trying to woo her with confidence.
Her eyes widened slightly. She scratched her head in resignation. "What, you even know that much? ...That's right, it was twenty holy gold coins. But once she learns she's got a rival, she'll definitely offer more, right?"
"You kids these days are so greedy," Toji replied, shaking his head in disapproval.
"I'll admit you've got something unusual there," Felt continued, crossing her arms. "But it's still unclear how much it's worth. I'm not an airhead to just accept everything the other party says. I won't believe this thing is worth twenty holy gold coins just like that."
