The days on Total Drama Island were filled with challenges, drama, and alliances, but today was different. Chris McLean, in a rare moment of mercy, had given the contestants a day off. For most of them, it was a chance to relax, but for Courtney, it was a chance to plan and strategize.

Courtney sat by the lake, reviewing a list of ideas in her notebook, when Duncan strolled up. "Hey, Princess," he said, his trademark smirk firmly in place. "Don't tell me you're working even on a day off."

Courtney shot him a look. "Of course I am. I don't have time to slack off like some people."

Duncan chuckled, plopping down beside her. "You know, all that planning isn't going to stop Chris from throwing curveballs at you."

"Maybe not," she replied, closing her notebook. "But it never hurts to be prepared. Unlike you, who thinks winging it is a strategy."

"Works for me," Duncan shrugged. "But that's why we make such a great team. You plan, and I, well... I improvise."

Courtney crossed her arms. "We are not a team."

"Right," Duncan said, raising an eyebrow. "And that's why you let me help you win that challenge last week."

She huffed, not wanting to admit that Duncan had actually been helpful. "That was a one-time thing."

"Sure, Princess," Duncan said with a grin. "Whatever you say."

Courtney glared at him, but before she could fire back, Duncan pulled something from behind his back. A small, scrappy-looking flower. "Here. I found this. Thought you'd like it."

Courtney blinked in surprise. "Is that supposed to be some kind of joke?"

"No joke," Duncan replied, his voice softer than usual. "It's just a flower. But, I guess if you're too good for it..."

He started to toss it away, but Courtney quickly snatched it from his hand. "I didn't say I didn't like it," she muttered, a faint blush creeping onto her cheeks.

Duncan smirked, leaning back on his hands. "Knew it."

For a moment, the two sat in comfortable silence, the usual tension between them softening. The chaos of Total Drama Island seemed far away as they looked out over the calm lake, the sun setting on the horizon.

"You know," Courtney said after a while, "you're not as awful as you pretend to be."

"And you're not as stuck-up as you pretend to be," Duncan shot back with a teasing grin.

Courtney rolled her eyes but smiled despite herself. "This doesn't change anything, Duncan."

"Sure, Princess," he said, standing up and offering her a hand. "But it was nice, right?"

She hesitated for a moment before taking his hand and letting him pull her to her feet. "Maybe a little."

As they walked back toward camp, the banter between them resumed, but there was a hint of something else—something unspoken, but understood.
