The next morning, we get a message from our sister village. Deep within the underground, we have another village much like ours. Rye Belanore tells us that it fears an attack by some of Mercury's men.
So, despite not wanting to leave the gates of Ilyntalos, I gather a small crew to head for Rye Belanore.
Romi is the only one I know personally. But Morwen Kardona, a siren, and Miyako Sese, a kitsune, also join us. But just as the four of us stand by the entrance to the tunnel that will take us to the portal, Emmeranne joins us.
"I need to see this place," she says. "I need to see the truth of what Mercury's capable to do. Aside from what he has done to us."
Romi shakes her head. "Em, I'm sorry, but we don't know exactly what is going on with this. We do not know all we are even going into ourselves. We can't afford to lose you."
"I know, but I survived in Mercury's home. We need to ... we can't just let Eris suffer to protect us. We need to see what exactly Mercury does. Please. Let me see this."
"Fine," I say, before Romi can say anything. "But you need to stay by Romi, or me. Or both of us. We don't know what is happening in Rye Belanore, but if we get there and need you to return here ASAP, then ...." I point to Miyako. "Miyako will take you back. Is that alright for you both?"
Miyako nods solemnly. Emmeranne sighs and nods. "Okay. Well, I'm ready to go. Eisley and Elidi are safe here, they're with Astoria and Leilani."
I smile at her. "Of course they are. But I'm glad to see you're finally trusting us."
Emmeranne nods.
Then, the five of us leave our home in the underground, walking through the labyrinthine tunnels that'll take us to the portals.
Finally, after long hours of walking, we reach the portal. It glows pink as we walk into the small chamber. Romi touches the rim of the portal, the silver metal etched with glowing runes. She nods at us.
"You ready?" I whisper. I hold out my hand to Emmeranne. "You might want to hold onto my hand. Since I doubt you have been through this kind of portal."
She nods and sheepishly takes my hand. And then, the five of us jump into the portal.
