For the first time in nearly five hundred years, the tree angel stirred. Nobody knew why she had stopped moving in the first place, and they certainly had no idea what made her decide to end her state of repose. Who could fathom the mind of such an entity? She stretched for two solid weeks, before spreading her wings, which were made of old growth forest. Then she took to the sky, headed for who knew where.

Larry the Raccoon had no idea he was living in the wings of the tree angel. As far as he knew he had been living in a regular old boring forest. The same one his parents had lived in and their parents before them, and their parents before them.

He had recently moved into his own tree, which he was pretty proud of, but when it suddenly started trembling and then turned completely sideways, he thought he had been sold a lemon. He had a good mind to march down to the office of the tree real estate salesman and give him a good dressing down, but he was much too busy hanging onto the branches for dear life to do that at the moment. Luckily he was very good at hanging onto things, and after a while, he even began to sort of enjoy the rocking sensation as the tree swayed up and down in a rhythmic motion.

It almost lulled him to sleep, but it was starting to get really cold and he began to shiver. The air seemed like it was getting thinner, and the pale blue sky began to darken into black as brilliant stars shone through the gaps in the foliage. He noticed ice crystals starting to form in the branches of his tree and now it was getting difficult to breathe.

And then suddenly a blue light shone in the treetops, and everything quickly warmed up. Air levels returned to normal, and before he knew it, he felt comfy and cozy, as if he had been wrapped in a warm blanket.

And then he really did fall asleep.

And then he really did fall asleep

The tree angel left the little planet it had been resting on far behind as it set a course for deep space. The atmospheric warming function in her wings kicked in automatically as she set off.
