A thud. My foot hits the sidewalk underneath me, a faint light being cast over me from a small but fierce looking street lamp. Mud splashes up my arms, and I look down at the cobblestones to see a small mouse, shivering in the rain. I look at the fog ahead, then back at the small creature. I quickly but carefully snatch him up, he gives a small squeak in response. I give him a crumb of my bread and hide him in my raincoat.
