FBI Special Agent Mia Torres was relentless in her pursuit of justice. Working the past 6 years in special crimes unit, trying to get to her goal of catching, the man who really killed her mother. Her mother had been one of the killer's first victims, a case that had gone cold for over 15 years. Mia had grown up with the shadow of her mother's unsolved murder hanging over her, fueling her determination to bring the killer to justice and to prove that the suspension around her father suicide had nothing to do with quilt of her disappearance. She had dedicated her life to the finding what really happened the night her mother disappeared. Leaning over her desk, head in her hands, waiting for another batch of coffee to be made, for her office has become a second home to her. Her blue sport coat jacket over the chair in the corner, gun and badge in her drawer, her nightly routine. Taken a deep breath, she knew there was a pattern. There had to be a pattern. She told herself. No-one does anything without doing it twice. She tried to remember about patterns in the mind, and what people do from an old college professor from school. But what is it? What had she been missing? She picked up one of the first case boxes, out of the 50 boxes and thought it was time, to start a fresh look at the crime scenes.
"Mia" her partner Brian poked his head through the door. She looked out of the corner of her eye, seeing him standing in the door frame.
" What you have Brian?"
"Well, for starters Emily told me to make sure that you get something to eat."
"It's Friday Brian, you know that I don't eat. I like my coffee."
Emily pokes her head in, and said "I knew you say that, that's why I brought you both dinners, and figure a little food might help you two work better, cant solve a crime in one night or on an empty stomach."
"Thank you, babe, but you know Mia, she won't eat it unless it has rice with it." Brian said jokingly at his partner.
"Hey, you know my foster parents told me rice was life, I can't help it stuck around with me." Mia said back. "Hey its Friday, Em you apparently have a new dress on. Plans for tonight?"
"Yes, it is our 3-year anniversary, but I know Brian was going be working late with you so I figured it was better celebrated it here, amongst friends."
The trio had been friends since they, met in college. Brian and Mia started working for Chicago PD before being accepted into the FBI. Emily had become a professor back at the university of South Chicago.
Brian sat down in the chair by the window, "mmm smells like you made my favorite babe." Opening up the container that had roast beef, potatoes and carrots. Shoving a piece of the meat into his mouth, Emily pulled one of the chairs by the desk and sat down beside him. Pulling out her container full of Sushi. Mia opens her container sitting back at her desk.
"Em, how did you know I like pork belly with limes?", Mia sat back not wanting to admit, that the food was heavenly in her mouth and was much needed.
"Cause being your roommate for 4 years, I have to know about my girl food needs." She said smiling at Mia.
"So why don't you guys, head out after you eat? I am just going through some of the old case files, see if I can't find something that was over looked. "
Brian scrapping the container clean, and putting his fork in the container," Mia these case files, have been looked through, you know by PD and by our previous units. Its just going drive you mad. Why don't you just go home. I know that cat of yours could use some loving to."
"I can't, you know where almost on the verge of the next body turning up, and I want to see if there is something in the pattern besides timeline of a headless body showing up in Chicago. Maybe we can catch him before body 51 or worse 52. "
