Chapter 4
I couldn’t immediately recover from the embarrassment of stepping off the stage. Samantha greeted me with a smile on her lips and an insult.
“It’s okay, Jayvee!” Samantha said. “It would sound bad if the king of the night was ‘Javier Dimakisig,’ right? Because you should be handsome if you’re the king of the night. Hahaha! But Samantha Dela Rosa would make a better queen because Remie’s name stinks. ‘Remedios Santelmo’ is so old-fashioned.”
I felt even more insulted by her laughter and gave her a dirty look. That’s just my situation—being laughed at. Friends, they laugh at you first before helping you. I just devoured the food on the table after that epic moment. Even after I was almost full, I couldn’t forget what happened, so I just sat back in my seat. I didn’t realize that Remie was sitting to my right.
“Jayvee, is that you?” she asked, and I turned to her. She was holding a glass of wine in her right hand.
“Hi Remie… uh, how’s being the queen?” I asked because, honestly, I couldn’t think of anything to say to her. Luckily, she didn’t push me away before I sat down.
“It’s okay, not that fun,” she said, looking sad. “You look human now!”
She smiled after saying that. Wow, so this is the first time I looked human to her. Did I look like a dog to her before, which is why she always shooed me away?
“Why aren’t you happy?” I asked, and she took a sip of her wine.
“Well, I broke up with Brandon already!” she said, and I frowned. Why did they break up? “He’s a jerk! I saw him with someone else at the bar last week, and that girl is the one he’s dating now.”
“Oh!” I pretended to be surprised, even though I was actually happy they broke up. Maybe this is the right chance to get closer to Remie, especially since she’s talking to me now. Maybe because I ‘look human’ now, she’s talking to me. I should have gotten a makeover and surgery from those gay guys earlier. “Cassandra? I thought Leandro was courting her?”
I’m not too gossipy, right?
“Well anyway, I don’t want to talk about gossip,” she said to me and stood up. “Come on, come with me. Do you want to forget what happened earlier?”
Wow, she knew about that too. Well, she was on stage at that time and just a few meters away from me.
“W-where?” I asked, suddenly nervous. Maybe this girl is a rapist. I don’t want to lose my virginity. See, I’m speaking English now because of her.
“I’m not satisfied with the wine here,” she said to me and walked away. I followed her. “I know a bar nearby.”
“But, I don’t drink,” I told her. Now I knew her plan. She was going to get me drunk and then take advantage of me. What the hell, I didn’t know she was like this.
“Don’t you want to?” she asked me with a smile. Would I let this chance to be with the girl I’ve liked for a long time slip away?
“Of course, I want to!” I said and quickly followed her.
We went to a bar near the school. There were dancers there who were almost naked, and waitresses who were hardly different from the dancers.
We sat on a long, circular bench meant for groups, but it was just the two of us. She signaled the waiter, who immediately came over. She ordered a case of beer. Was she serious? Why a whole case? We couldn’t finish that by ourselves.
“Is this your first time?” she asked me.
“First time for what?”
“Drinking?” she asked.
