"Greetings, young master. This is our new gardener, as you know our last gardener unfortunately passed away a few days ago but his son Recommended to be a replacement for him." Kliothy started, my legs were crossed and we were in a library. They disturbed the peace I had with this book about this world's language.
It was an early morning, just after breakfast. Nothing special today, just some new replacement for a gardener.
"He did excellent work during his training so we'll hope you'll accept him for the job." I flipped through the pages of the book, silently reading with my head resting on the fist of my hand. The sun's radiance dimmed through the window, serving as light for the whole library.
I kept my attention on the page, as if ignoring them. It's a waste of time, it's not my job to listen to them whine all day.
Holding this book reminds me of what Joseph had told me yesterday, a past of somebody cyril wasn't included in... What could he possibly want to know about?
"Young master?" He called out for me, I turned my head up to see my butler with a young man beside him. Possibly the same age as me or younger.
"I'm sorry, could you repeat it? I was sucked into my book." I said while keeping my eyes back down on the page.
"..." He didn't seem to want to repeat it, suddenly the young man started talking for himself. "My name is Cleo, I'll be in your service. I hope that you can take a look at my performance and--..."
"Kliothy, why don't you discuss this matter with my brother? I don't want to talk about such things." I silenced him, closing my book in annoyance. Causing a soft sound echoing through the empty room.
"He can't see my performance, he can't possibly judge me through a letter..."
"You're not the one I asked." I silenced him, looking at him with a glare.
"Forgive me young master but that is not possible" he answers, I let out a grunt at that. "Then do it yourself, you're the butler of this house after all aren't you?" I wasn't really interested in flowers or plants so I guess I'll let the butler take care of this, he knows everything anyway.
I placed down my book, finishing my tea in a sip. "I understand, young master." Kliothy took a small bow for me, the guy only stared at us in silence muttering something under his breath. I could feel him radiating with annoyance, showing your true colors on your first day aren't you?
Soon after, they both left and went to the garden for his little test. I can't help but be proud of myself for being able to keep cyril's personality without being questioned. I guess I could be arrogant when it comes to things I'm not interested in.
No one could bother me today, Anne was busy with the other maids as usual. She was more available before I recovered, but now she's got a lot of jobs to do for some reason so a different servant is serving me right now.
Pouring me tea every time I finish one and serving me snacks while I flipped through the pages.
Time passed by without me realizing that afternoon was already over, I've stacked a pile of finished books on the coffee table. I only realized when I saw the sun set out the window. I've read too many books about crystals that it would seem suspicious and yet no one questioned my new weird hobby.
"Young master Cyril, it's time for dinner. Won't you eat something? I know you have missed your lunch, it would be a shame to miss dinner too." Kliothy asks, entering the room with a lantern, signaling the maid to leave.
The maid serving me bows before leaving the room quietly with the tray of empty plates, tea cup and the cups.
"... Ah, I didn't notice the sun was set already... I'm fine, I'm not particularly hungry." I placed the book on the table, closing it. "Inform the maids to not prepare dinner. I'll be taking a bath."
