Sheru's P.O.V
For a person like me, who has lived their whole damn lives on the streets, unloved and uncared, for such a person a request to move into a house with them means everything. Even though I have known Sese for a short period of time, it feels like the small interactions that we had were able to get me to trust him. I mean, he is so much better than all the old perverts that are lurking around the market, who look at you like you are a piece of meat.
Moving in with Sese means I'll have more stability and safety. No need to worry about the scorching heat or the sudden downpour of rain. I'll have a safe and comfortable place to sleep in and also a factor to consider would be the availability of food. Right now here on the streets, I go from a hand-to-mouth system as I am notably poor, or else it could be even stated that I sometimes don't have a single coin on me. I remember the amount of Food that Sese arranged on our boat ride when it wasn't even planned. The delicacies there were so foreign to me, some I had never even heard of.
It's safe to assume that Sese is from a rich family. Truthfully, I don't even care if he gives me a room in the servant quarters because I know without a doubt that the standard of living of his servants will be a hundred times better than the one that I am having right now.
Ever since I agreed with Sese to live with him, he seems a bit distracted. Could it be that he is already second-guessing taking a roadside resident to his luxurious house? When his attendant brought his horse, Sese magnificently got on the horse and looked at me. I was a bit confused as there was no horse for me. My mind started running different scenarios, was he wanting me to trail behind his horse or was his servant going to give me a ride? My eyes must have been unfocused because Sese called my name and when our eyes connected, his hand was stretching towards me.
He was inviting a low-born roadside pauper to get on the horse with him. My heart started to pound hard when I thought of what that meant...... He was inviting me to ride along with him for all of the city to witness. The nobles with a pride greater than the heat of the Sun, never associate themselves with low-born slaves. They consider it an act of rebellion against the throne and the hierarchy that has been set in the kingdom. There are no rules that prohibit the association of the nobles and the likes of me, but people don't like to lower their standards and become fodder for gossip.
Sese openly gives me the invitation to ride with him, it clearly shows how he disregards the opinions of the high-class people and that he is not afraid of gossip. My eyes crinkled as I smiled while letting him pull me onto the saddle of the horse. The white horse was magnificent and it was very calm when I, a stranger got on his back. A well-trained horse indeed.....
Sese's hand came around to hold me from my waist as his horse started to gallop at a high speed. I couldn't help but hold the gasp that escaped my lips as I felt the warmth that spread into my skin, even through the rags that I was wearing. I'm glad that the sun was setting and the surroundings were getting darker by the second or Sese would have noticed the goosebumps that had arisen on my skin.
The surroundings were dark to the point that I wasn't able to see my own hands in front of me, but Sese guided his horse to a stop at a certain point.
" Did we arrive at your house, Sese? "
" Yes we did, come I'll take you inside ", he said with excitement in his voice. When we got down from the horse, he guided me to a wall and then he pulled on some random bricks and a pathway opened up, almost as if it was a magical thing. My mouth was opened in surprise but Sese didn't see it. He just removed a fire torch from the narrow pathway and used it to lighten the path ahead of us.
" Where are we going, Sese? I thought we were going to your house. "
" We are, Little Dove.... Just hold my hand tightly until we are in my house. This is a shortcut ........ I'll explain the rest to you later ".
