Do you believe that greed is the foundation of human nature?
Throughout the course of human history, we have sought everything thought to be unobtainable and have always come out victorious. It has never been never a question of how we will reach new heights but when.
This unstoppable perseverance and determination doesn't have to come from a single person. In fact, I believe that each and every single human being on Earth makes up what we know as the indomitable human spirit.
Despite that, what is this one thing that has pushed humans to keep seeking more power? Time and time again, we've witnessed the rise and fall of empires and civilizations over treasures and fantasies, each time ending in tragedy.
We seem to have never learned from the mistakes of the past. We deny peace and embrace violence as a means to end conflict.
However, I believe it'll stay like that for as long as humans exist. Beneath all of this chaos, it's greed that makes the world go round.
Greed is a force of nature, our nature.
For better or worse, it is what pushes humanity to throw away everything in the present to reach for a far more exceptional future, be it for their own or everyone else's sake.
That said, will there be a point in life where we'd finally regret our decision to obtain greater power? Will we soon find ourselves in a position of no return?
Humanity has evolved past the ancient sticks and stones. Now, we have iron and steel—firearms and weapons of mass destruction. However, that still isn't the end of our story.
Maybe through the hopes of a miracle, or perhaps through a deal with the Devil, we've obtained a power that will haunt the world until the end of time.
The epitome of humanity's greed, the one force to end all others—magic.
Now, if you were to think that greed isn't a part of human nature, you'd be naive. Because even after discovering God's arcane power and utilizing it for our own selfish needs, we're still trying to seek more.
Possibly, sometime in the future, mankind will be able to end wars with a snap of their fingers. And then, if every single human possessed that ability, what would happen next? Would it bring about the extinction of humanity? Or will it bring us to another plane of existence?
That said, if greed breeds strength, what's stopping you from being greedy?
With the existence of magic, every single human being is in danger of death by just being around one another. The only way to remove all the threats of magic is to become the strongest.
Knowing all of this, I'll ask you one last question.
Without greed, can you even call yourself human?
