Luke's POV
The next morning I have early morning practice. During practice, I'm thinking about the best course of action to get Katie to talk with me.

After so much thinking that actually made my brain hurt, I decided that there was only one thing to do. It was risky and stupid, but it was the only thing to do.

For my plan to work, I needed to take Luca's phone without him knowing and text Katie. And to do that, I need to lie to Coach Pearson.

"Coach, could I leave early? I'm not feeling well," I say. Pearson frowns.

"Party too hard last night, Hughes?"

"No sir. I think I just ate some bad eggs for breakfast this morning and they might be making a comeback on the ice if I don't leave," I explain. Coach sighs.

"Alright. When you get better, I want you to make up on your lost practice time by going to the weight room."

"You got it, Coach." I say with a nod. I act like I'm about to throw up and Coach wrinkles his nose.

"Get out of here, boy. I'm not cleaning up your mess. There are a lot of things I can tolerate, but puke isn't one of them."

I skate across the ice and go to the locker room. When I get to the locker room, I go straight to Luca's locker and fish through his hockey bag for his phone. When I find it, I punch in Luca's passcode which he so graciously told me a couple weeks ago when I took a picture of him and his brother for their mom. I then pull up Luca's messages and search for Katie's number.

I begin texting her, pretending to be Luca.

Katie 🧐

Luca
Hey Katie. I'm a little nervous
about the bio exam this week.
Could we meet up somewhere
to study for it?

Katie 🧐
Sure! We can meet up at the
coffee shop on campus
around eleven today

Luca
Sounds great. See you then

Katie 🧐
Yep. See you then!

After I finish texting Katie, I delete the conversation on Luca's end so he doesn't get confused and shove the phone back in his bag.

I go over to my own locker and change out of my hockey gear and skates. As I'm about to leave, the guys are all coming back to the locker room.

"Hey Luke. I heard you weren't feeling well," Luca says. I nod.

"Yeah. I ate some bad eggs for breakfast this morning and they made a comeback,"

"Now I'm definitely not eating the school's eggs," Luca says, wrinkling his nose. "Well, feel better, Luke."

"Thanks Luca. See you at practice,"

"Yep. See you later,"

As I walk outside, Ethan runs after me and pushes past a couple basketball players to catch up to me.

"Luke, wait!"

I stop to turn around as Ethan practically barrels into me.

"What's up, Ethan?" I ask. My roommate shrugs.

"Oh nothing. I was just wondering how you had some bad eggs at breakfast if all you ate this morning was a blueberry muffin,"
