Money.

A piece of paper that has such a great amount of meaning around the world.

The wealthiest people might not say it but they need money. Everyone does.

Everyone around the world uses some type of currency.

Money will forever be an important necessity to the billions of people living on Earth.

The Leoni family is one of the wealthiest families in New York. They have great connections not only in the city but with many different places around the country and even the world.

Valeria and Emilio Leoni only have one child and her name is Avalina Leoni.

Avalina's father introduced her to the world of business at 5 years old hoping that she would one day take over her families business and lead better than he ever could.

The young girl didn't have much of a childhood. She was homeschooled and most of her time consisted of studying, learning new instruments and languages. Nothing more.

Oftentimes, it would only be Avalina and her mother in the house. Her father would always be at work never paying that much mind towards his daughter and even his own wife.

It was very much clear that Emilio had many mistresses even the young girl was able to notice her father's clear disloyalty towards her mother.

Avalina's mother did not care about Emilio's actions.

Even though she hated Emilio she couldn't leave him. No matter how great her plans to escape him were she knew that it would never work because he would always find her. Especially if she took Avalina along with her, and she knew that she could never leave her young child behind.

So instead she decided to play the part as a "trophy wife" and reminded herself that she was grateful that Emilio was able to give her the best thing that ever happened to her.

Avalina.

When Avalina was fourteen years old she was placed in a private Catholic school. Only the best of course. She had never been around that many people. Especially for five days a week.

Her social skills needed great improvement. Besides the only people she talked to were her family, her stuffed animals, and the maids. If that even counted.

It was hard making friends at first but as the months of her freshman year started to go by she had then not only made one, but two best friends.

Naomi and Charlotte.

The young girl kept her friend group small remembering what her mom once told her.

"Hija, en la vida aprenderás que no necesitas muchos, sino unos pocos amigos para mantenerte en marcha. No escuches a tu padre. Cuando estés en la cima, te darás cuenta de que solo es solitario allí arriba si eliges estar solo, mariposa."

Translation: "Daughter, in life you will learn that you need not many but a few friends to keep you going. Do not listen to your father. When you are at the top you will realize that it is only lonely up there if you chose to be alone butterfly."

So the young girl cherished these friends and still does to this day.

Yes, throughout her years of highschool she gained many friends but, the only ones that mattered to her were Naomi and Charlotte.

When the girl graduated from high-school she made sure to keep in touch with her two friends telling them everything that happened throughout her college years at Harvard University.

Affluent, powerful, and respected. That is what the two families were.

The Sorentino family was not only known for their great wealth but for being the head of the Italian mafia.

They had three sons all different ages. The eldest being Dante Sorentino.

The Leoni and Sorentino family were known to be very great allies.

It was simply because the Leoni family needed extra protection.

So, the Don of the Italian mafia at the time Amerigo ensured that the protection needed was provided. Until, a major business deal went wrong between the two families which caused the death of Amerigo Sorentino. Leaving the eldest son to take over.

It caused a great rivalry between the two families.

Now it leaves the reader to wonder what was the deal and how did it go wrong?

I hope everyone is having or had a great day!

I wanted to clarify that there isn't much of Dante's backstory in the prologue but you will get more of it slowly throughout the story. Along with Avalina's.

Again, thank you so much for reading!
