Faded into Legend

The next morning I started my work as normal. News of the school master's absences quickly spread through the town. Soon a search was conducted when Icabog did not report for school. At the creek they found his hat and the saddle. Along with a shattered pumpkin. Old Gunpowder was found later by his master's gate. But there was no sign of the school master. By the next day people begin telling tales that Icabog had been spirited away in the night. He had met a dark spector along his route home and was carried off to join the other ghost in the hollow.

I paid a visit to the school house. Hans Van Ripper, the executor of the state, was going through Ichabod's belongings. He didn't have much possessions. Two sets of clothing, a few coins, and his books. Van Ripper wanted to burn the books, as they served no use to the people. I told them that I would use the book to start the coals in my shop. Burning these books could be dangerous. If the man had somehow managed to capture and seal something within the pages. Van Ripper burned everything then left the flames to smolder. I stayed and collected a few of the items Crane had managed to acquire. The bottle of Wolfbane, the books, and a couple of elusive herbs used in potion making. Once I was sure there was nothing left to search through I left before anyone else could come snooping around. The school was left to rot. Many people believe that his ghost still haunts the old school. Stories about him circulated around the fires on cold evenings.

That evening I stash the books in a safe place. The first book was a leger that detailed his life. He was a broken man long before he came to Sleepy Hollow. Born into a poor family his father resulted in dark magic. The second book was written log over how to kill certain preternaturals. He learned things the hard way. He had mentioned that he wanted to create an army to fight any non-human. With the Van Tassel wealth he could get an army to hunt preternaturals. With him gone he can do no harm.

With Ichabod gone I rode out to the Van Tassel farm. I found Katrina out in the stable. Dismounting off Daredevils back I tied him to the post. She smiled when she saw me and rushed to my arms.

"Shall I take you for a ride?"

Several months later I led Katrina to the altar where I placed a ring upon her finger. For fifty years we lived together on her father's farm. Though I was unable to give her a son of her own, we took in orphans and raised them as our.

The dreamy town of Sleepy Hollow still holds that dream-like charm. The ghost stories are still told in the town.
