Averi-

I sunk out before anyone else was awake to get to the interrogation. After I left a note explaining where I was going I left. The interrogation was to happen at the training grounds.

"Hey," I said waving to the guard. "Can I pass?"

He smiled and stepped aside, "Yes, Averi you may but just this once." Back at the Guard Master's office, Warren was surrounded by the elite guard. A few people I hadn't met yet sat around the room staring at the captured boy. I walked in and all heads turned to me. Seeing Warren alive and well sitting over there was harder than I thought. Why did I think I could do this I asked myself.

"Now since Averi is here we can start," the Guard Master announced. I shyly took a seat on a stool in the back of the room. Smoke Screen stood next to Warren. He smiled at me and mouthed 'chin up'. I obeyed I have every right to be here. Just because I'm the youngest doesn't make me any less important.

"Who would like to go first?" the Guard Master asked.

A baled man in a nice tunic rose from his seat on the couch. With a cold expressionless voice, he asked, "Are you the only Maze Watcher in history?"

Warren plastered a smug smile on his lips. "No, does it look like I'm hundreds of years old? The title and job get passed down." Warren looked straight into his eyes. The bald man stepped back and fumbled to sit down. Trying not to show his fear of the little boy. I don't understand how Warren intimidates everyone so much.

"Alright," the Guard Master said dragging it out.

"Who's next?"

No one stood.

"Averi would you like to go since you're not afraid of Warren," Smoke Screen spoke up.

I raised my chin high. "Yes, Smoke Screen. Thank you." With all the confidence I could muster, I slid off the stool and over to Warren.

His evil grin widened. "Averi."

"Warren," I started copying his tone. "Where are my friends brothers and my mom?"

"Oh, Averi so caring. Your family members have returned home. But haven't woken up yet."

"Will they be hurt like I was after last time?"

"Yes, in various degrees."

I stopped for a moment. "Why are you answering correctly?"

"You need to know all you can about how the maze works and."

"Why is that," I interrupted.

"If you'd let me finish."

"Then do it."

"Fine fine your now in charge of the maze. You've got my job."

"Her in charge," a woman with way too much makeup scolded, "heavens no."

"Please wait your turn Ms.," the Guard Master instructed politely.

"What? You're kidding. Right, Warren?"

Warren rolled his eyes dramatically. "I'm not kidding. You're next in line. I chose you. Ha, have fun."

I took a step back. "I'm not in charge of the Maze. I'm going back home with my friends. You don't have the power anymore to tell me what to do."

"You sure?"

"Warren."

"Fine. Whatever."

"So I'm in charge of the Maze so I can say who's in charge of it and who's not."
