The rain drummed softly against the windowpane, a rhythmic accompaniment to the silence that had settled like dust in the corners of Taylor's bedroom. It was the kind of day that hung heavy in the air, mirroring the weight in her chest. She sat on the edge of her bed, legs drawn up to her chin, her phone resting beside her, an untouched messenger of unspoken words.

It had been days since she had last responded to Y/n -three days, ten hours, and fifty-six minutes, to be precise. But honestly who was counting? The last text y/n had sent, innocent yet poignant, hovered in her mind like a dark cloud.

y/n
hey are you okay? i miss you!!

How sweet those words were, bathed in concern and care. Yet, they only dug deeper into Taylor's web of emotions, knotting them tighter and tighter until breathing felt like a chore. She missed Y/n too, a gnawing ache at the pit of her stomach, but the fear of unraveling was stronger than the yearning for closeness.

Taylor's thoughts drifted, memories flashing by like snapshots. Laughter shared under the dim glow of fairy lights, hands interlocked during midnight walks, dreams whispered softly in the shadows of their peace. They had known such bliss, such simplicity.

So where had it all gone wrong? What possessed Taylor to do what she did?

She caught a glimpse of Y/n in her mind-a smile that could lighten up the darkest of days, eyes that sparkled with mischief and warmth. But that sparkle felt muted now, as though a grey filter had been drawn over it, dimming everything it touched.

The phone buzzed again, a buzz in the stillness. Taylor's heart raced, but she did not reach for it. Instead, she lay back on her bed, staring blankly at the ceiling as the unanswered message loomed over her. Each vibration felt like a reminder of her failure-not just as a girlfriend, but as a person capable of being loved.

"I can't just talk to her" she whispered to the empty room, her voice coated in thick despair. "Why can't I just tell her?"

But therein lay the issue. All she knew was the tightening coil in her chest, the looming shadows in her mind that choked the words before they could leave her lips. It felt easier to hide, to retreat into the whispering void of her thoughts than to face Y/n and be vulnerable. The risk of exposing her turmoil seemed like a far greater danger than the pain she was inflicting by remaining silent.

A soft knock broke through the suffocating silence, and Taylor froze. It was her roommate, Selena, but Taylor felt the want to hide. She didn't want to see anyone.

"Hey, Tayyy! Just checking in. You good?" Sel's voice was cheery, yet there was an edge of concern beneath it, a reminder that her isolation wasn't going unnoticed.
