"Ah, ah, ah. I almost forgot, there was one more variable in this equation. Gojo isn't the only sorcerer you should be worrying about."

"And who might that be?" Jogo tilts his head.

"The reincarnation of the deity who used to rule over Japan so long ago...

Mei Kaminaga, the goddess of thunder and storms."

"By the time we arrived on the scene, your son was already dead," Megumi says to the woman with a nonchalant expression. She covers her mouth as she gasps in shock, her eyes beginning to water with tears. "To be honest, I was skeptical about saving any of the people in there. But... My friend was different." Fushiguro starts to recall the events that occurred a few days ago. "He wasn't successful, but he tried to bring your son's body back to you after we confirmed his death." Fushiguro purses his lips together, slightly frowning.

...

"Please." Itadori said to Megumi with a forced smile spreading across his features.

...

He then pulls out a small, clear zip-lock bag from his pocket, and holds it out to the lady. "Take this, at least."

The woman takes the small zip-lock bag from his hands and examines it, almost immediately realizing that it contains her son's nametag: Okazaki Tadashi.

"I'm sorry we weren't able to save Tadashi," Megumi apologizes while bowing at a ninety-degree angle.

"...It's alright. Don't apologize." The old woman sniffles, holding the zip-lock bag in her hand tightly. "I'm the only one who would mourn his passing anyway." Before she knew it, tears were already flowing down her face as she fell to her knees, hugging her son's nametag close to her chest.

The ravennette dared not to disrupt the mother grieving for her son, so he could only stand there in silence. After all, he could understand how she felt; especially after losing a friend not too long ago and almost losing someone who he deeply cherishes. He too wanted to cry at that moment, but he knew tears would not bring back the dead and heal the wounds of those gravely injured, so he continued to stand there quietly until the mother finished.

After a few minutes, the old woman finally stopped crying and slowly stood back up while trying to collect herself.

"Oh... That was a bit unsightly. Please forgive me." She sighs, wiping away the remaining tears from her face. "I'm sorry- *sniffle* I just... didn't know I'd miss my son this much." Her body trembles lightly. "I know he did some bad things, but... He's still my son, y'know?" She chuckles, smiling bitterly. "Forgive me for showing you such a vulnerable display."

"No, no. It's fine. I completely understand how you feel. There's no need for you to apologize and explain yourself." Fushiguro reassures the woman calmly.

She looks up at him with a hint of realization in her eyes. "So... You lost someone too? I'm sorry to hear that."

"Two people, actually."

...

The two stood in front of the entrance in awkward silence, unsure of what to say until the old woman decided to speak up.

"...Were they precious to you?" She inquired.

"I... guess so."

"What do you mean by that? Were they not good friends of yours?"

"Yes, they are good friends of mine... But I didn't even know the guy for that long, so I'm not sure. The girl, however, I've known her for years and... I cherish her very much." Megumi pauses to take a deep breath. "It's a good thing that she's only in a coma right now, but I'm not sure how long it will be until she wakes up or if she ever will." Megumi's fists began to shake at his sides as he clenched them tightly. "If she doesn't... I don't know what I'll do..." without her.
