—The chaos hit like a storm. One moment, the city streets were quiet, and the next, they were flooded with the sound of bloodthirsty battle cries and the clash of fangs and claws. Joss barely had time to register the shift before he was in the thick of it, his pack members howling and tearing into the ancient Harkon vampires, their growls echoing through the streets.
The Harkons were ruthless. They tore through the city with no regard for life, only destruction, their attacks fast and brutal. For the first time in years, werewolves and Lumina vampires fought side by side, forced into a reluctant alliance by a common enemy. But it didn’t matter. The lines between clans had blurred, and survival was all that was left.
Joss shifted into his wolf form, muscles rippling beneath his fur as he barreled into the fray. His teeth sank into the neck of a Harkon, the taste of blood sharp in his mouth. The vampire screeched before Joss finished him off with a swift snap of his jaws. But for every Harkon he tore down, another seemed to take its place. There were too many of them, and they were stronger than Joss had anticipated.
In the distance, he could see Gawin moving with lethal grace, slicing through the attackers with a deadly precision. Even in the chaos, the Lumina warrior was a sight to behold—calm, controlled, devastatingly efficient. Joss’s gaze lingered on him for a split second too long, and he was nearly blindsided by a Harkon who lunged at him from the side.
Snarling, Joss dodged the attack and sank his claws into the vampire’s chest, throwing him to the ground. The fight was relentless, and Joss could feel the weight of it bearing down on him. His muscles ached, his breath came in ragged gasps, but he couldn’t stop. Not now.
The battle raged on, the city turning into a battleground of blood and fire. Werewolves and Lumina vampires fought with everything they had, but the Harkons weren’t here just to fight—they were here to destroy.
Joss leaped over a fallen Lumina soldier, his heart pounding as he scanned the battlefield for Gawin. He couldn’t see him, but he could feel him, the pull between them growing stronger even in the heat of battle. It was a distraction he couldn’t afford, but it was one he couldn’t ignore.
The scent of burning wood filled the air as a nearby building went up in flames, the fire casting eerie shadows over the street. Joss tore through another Harkon, his movements becoming more desperate as the fight dragged on. His pack was holding their own, but they were struggling to keep up with the sheer ferocity of the ancient vampires.
Just as Joss was about to shift his focus, a blinding force slammed into him from the side, sending him crashing into the side of a building. The impact knocked the wind out of him, and for a moment, the world spun around him. He shook his head, trying to clear his vision, and when he looked up, he saw him.
The Harkon leader.
He was massive, towering over the battlefield with an aura of ancient power that made Joss’s blood run cold. His eyes glowed a deep, menacing red as he surveyed the carnage with a cruel smile. His presence was like a black hole, drawing all the violence and chaos toward him.
“Ah,” the leader said, his voice a low rumble that carried over the sounds of battle. “The Alpha.”
Joss growled, baring his fangs as he pushed himself to his feet. His body screamed in protest, but he ignored the pain. He couldn’t back down now.
The Harkon leader moved with terrifying speed, closing the distance between them in an instant. Joss barely had time to react before the vampire’s claws raked across his chest, tearing through his flesh like it was paper. Joss roared in pain, stumbling back as blood poured from the wound.
“Pathetic,” the leader sneered, his fangs gleaming in the firelight. “Is this all the mighty Alpha can muster?”
Joss’s vision blurred, but he forced himself to stand, his muscles trembling with the effort. He couldn’t let it end like this. Not here. Not now.
Just as the Harkon leader lunged for a finishing blow, a flash of silver shot past Joss’s vision. Gawin. His blade gleamed as it sliced through the air, catching the leader off guard and forcing him back. The Harkon leader snarled, his eyes narrowing as he turned to face the Lumina warrior.
“Well, well,” the leader hissed. “The prodigal son of Lumina. You’ve come to die with your little pets?”
Gawin didn’t respond. His eyes were cold, calculating, as he positioned himself between Joss and the Harkon leader. The tension between them was palpable, the air thick with the promise of violence.
Joss struggled to catch his breath, his chest heaving as he tried to stand tall beside Gawin. Despite the pain coursing through his body, he couldn’t help but feel a surge of gratitude—and something else—toward the vampire.
“You really know how to make an entrance,” Joss rasped, wiping the blood from his mouth as he tried to steady himself.
Gawin shot him a glance, his lips twitching into a faint smirk. “Couldn’t let you have all the fun, could I?”
Before Joss could respond, the Harkon leader let out a furious roar and charged at them, his claws outstretched. Joss and Gawin moved as one, their unspoken bond driving them forward into the fight. Together, they were a force to be reckoned with, each movement perfectly in sync as they tore into the Harkon leader with all the strength they had left.
But the leader was stronger than anything they had faced before. He moved with inhuman speed and precision, deflecting their attacks with ease. Every blow Joss landed felt like hitting a wall, and he could see the same struggle in Gawin’s movements.
Still, they fought on, side by side, their connection driving them to push harder, faster. As the battle raged around them, Joss could feel the lines between werewolf and vampire blurring even further. There was no longer any question of sides or loyalties—there was only survival.
And in the heart of the chaos, Joss and Gawin stood together, fighting with everything they had to protect the city they had both sworn to defend.
But even as they fought, Joss couldn’t shake the feeling that something else was unraveling between them—something far more dangerous than the Harkon threat.
And it was only a matter of time before it all came crashing down.
