Zima wakes up to bright sun's light and feels annoyed about it. He stayed in bed for a while, thinking about what next will await this day. New place, new people, new life - it's all worrying. What he has to expect? How the life in that town will be? What people will think about him? The only way to know at least something is ask "him" about all that. Zima got up and left his cabin, looking for Forget Me Not. It was quiet in corridor - no sound at all. Such calm atmosphere suited Zima well - he remembered the same one from these days when he lived in forest. What was the feeling again? Ah yes,nostalgia...Interesting feeling indeed. Zima kept feeling it way too often that it feels like he lives in these memories again. Even in previous home he couldn't stop thinking about baker-man,who became a father-figure for Zima due to his kindness. He wished to live with him forever and run away from his abusive parent, but the death took baker-man away right when Zima grew up and become an adult. He couldn't handle such tragedy and did something, that leaded him to his arrest. He had never knew what peaceful life is until he was sent to deserted island, yet he had never experienced one among people. Maybe there aren't any peaceful life among people, but it's still worth of trying in hopes to find kind ones. Beside Zima's disbelief in peaceful life among humans,he still believes that Forget Me Not is kind man he shows as. Maybe he's the one Zima needed or maybe...
While thinking,he managed to reach the end of corridor and when he opened the door,he saw Forget Me Not standing on the edge of ship. He seemed to enjoy the breeze of fresh air. Luckily,Zima took his new umbrella beforehand,so he can surely accompany Forget Me Not in his activities. Zima opened umbrella and walked to him. Daylight blue sky, noisy waves - all in one ans that's beautiful and relaxing. He had never felt such relief from the sea.
"So you're here..." - Forget Me Not spoke. - "Good morning."
"Good...morning..." - Zima replied to greet.
"You decided to accompany me again? I appreciate it."
"..."
Zima said nothing. He simply kept enjoying the breeze. Yes,he wanted to accompany Forget Me Not all the time and talk to him more, yet his lack of socialising let him down this time. To ask the thing he wanted to ask about, Zima decided to write the question on paper. Zima did his best to formulate it correctly so he had to overthink each detail so the question sounded correctly. After a while he showed a paper with that question to Forget Me Not and he looked at it to read it. It said "What is awaiting in Chicago?" with a lot of grammar corrections and crossed out words.
"So that's what you wanted to ask me about..." - Forget Me Not said. - "It'll be different for you. There are some things to experience: new view, new culture - new everything. What exactly I mean here will be a surprise for you,so no need to rush with questions."
And just when Zima was about to write new question again,Forget Me Not said:
"No need to worry about mistakes - I'll try to understand this way and correct you."
Zima stayed silent for a while, sighed and asked:
"How does it...um...look like?"
"The houses and buildings are way too different from your homeland." - Forget Me Not replied. - "They are...bigger."
[khram Vasiliya
"Even bigger than...храм Василия
Blazhennogo]
Блаженного...?"
"...If you are talking about red cathedral at the centre of Moscow called St. Basil's Cathedral,then...maybe."
"..."
Zima felt guilty for mispronouncing the cathedral's name he thought of.
"I'm sorry..." - he said
"No need to apologise for mistakes like these." - Forget Me Not comforted. - "There's nothing to be ashamed of if you don't know English well."
He was right - Zima shouldn't be ashamed for not knowing this language well. He actually felt himself accepted by Forget Me Not for his mistakes even if he can be misunderstood. This made Zima feel happiness inside his soul while chickadee, who was sad for that whole time, suddenly started to dance and flap their wings happily. Forget Me Not's eyes started to fill up with joy,yet later that joy disappeared and then he asked:
"Is something troubling you?"
Chickadee stopped dancing and Zima, who did not expect such question, asked:
"H-How did you...know...?"
"I can tell just by looking at you. If you have something to share,do tell."
Zima thought a bit and started to write on paper again. This time he wrote quicker than previous time and he showed that paper to Forget Me Not. He started to read:
"I can't stop thinking about my dark past and I also had a...What does it say?"
[son]
"It says «сон».... When I was...sleeping...I-I saw how I was...drowning...in water..."
Forget Me Not thought for a second and said:
[son]
"The «сон» you speak of is called «dream»,Zima."
"No,I...I don't want...to drown...I just saw...it...when I was asleep..."
"..."
Awkward situation indeed, that leaded to awkward silence. After that silence,Forget Me Not happily sighed like he was about to laugh and said:
[son]
"Zima, the «сон» and the «dream» you thought of share the same word,so if you want to talk about something you saw while asleep, say «dream» - they'll understand you anyway."
"Hm..." - Zima thought. - "You're...right...thank you..."
"My pleasure, but as for your dream,I believe it means something and that will affect your future. I don't usually believe this, but you should give it a try."
"Will I...drown...?"
Forget Me Not gently giggled:
"No Zima,I believe you won't."
Zima sadly lowered his head and chickadee seemed to be sad as well. Forget Me Not looked at Zima and he seemed to know what else Zima will say next. And then,Zima started his story:
"I once...had a family...but they are...dead...I wish I could...k-kill myself...if I had a chance..."
Forget Me Not gasped and his eyes widened in shock. He seemed to remember something similar to his story - especially suicide attempt part. Due to shock he almost ignored everything else said next, fighting back the flashbacks of dark past. Forget Me Not,without a smile on his face, faced forward and lowered his head to look on a ground. With silence for some time,he eventually spoke:
"We do have something in common after all."
"Hm...?" - Zima hemmed.
"You also have lost your family, you also lived like a stray dog and also tried to end your suffering through death - we both went through it,but unlike me...why do you trust me? Why are you risking to be harmed once again? Just...why?"
Zima looked at Forget Me Not and replied:
"Because it's not...e-everyone's fault...There are...bad people - they can harm you,but...n-not everyone can...do that...They are not...bad...You are also...not bad...I trust you..."
"...Tch." - Forget Me Not snorted annoyingly. He seemed to want to deny these words, thinking like a words of dying man he won't listen, yet he couldn't as if there was a lump in his throat. It felt like he actually knew that he said the truth, yet he denied it in his heart deeply. Why? Why he couldn't deny it? Could it be...?
They hang out like this until evening: both silence and joy over view and conversations about life and their meanings. Some Ethics even gossiped about how close they are in just two days, but maybe they won't notice such deep friendship connection for long...yet. They were happy with each other even if they felt that it's just a talk about topics they like. Eventually, somewhere close to nighttime, the ship arrived to lands of New Jersey.
"We only need to take train and we'll reach our destination." - Forget Me Not said to Zima.
They invaded one close train that made a stop to pick up other passengers and threatened other people and train driver to stay calm and say nothing. Through that threat train driver had to drive them to Chicago due to fear he had in his soul. Zima didn't feel quite well about such plan, but Forget Me Not comforted him, saying that this is usual for them. Zima and Forget Me Not sat in the same train carriage together, barely saying a word. Both of them are not accepted to talk much most of the time,so they needed to stay silent to recharge themselves and their social battery. For day or two they arrived to Chicago. Some people including train driver were gone by that time - maybe they disappeared because of storm. Most of the Ethics left the train while Forget Me Not,waiting outside, landed Zima a hand, saying:
"And here is Chicago I've been talking about. Welcome,Zima."
Zima stood and looked around to see the surroundings. Ethics were looking at him, waiting for him to leave and behind them there were fancy city with beautiful houses and buildings - very different from Moscow. It was all stunning - it's hard to catch a breath. Surprisingly for Zima,he felt himself safe in this place and he took breath in to digest all these new feelings together. He made breath out for bravery and taking Forget Me Not's hand,he eventually set his foot on a new homeland.
