It was a cold Halloween evening as all the kids were rushing up and down the streets, trying to get as much candy as they possibly could. The breeze was gentle as the fall colored trees swayed in the breeze, the nice smell of pine cones filling the air. The kids were almost always running in and out of CandyClub, dropping a few candies now and then or their parents making complaints about the wait of payment or their kids getting out of control. I tried to be patient will all the ruckus going on but was slowly losing it as some of the parents backlashed me for my so called 'terrible work skills' because I wasn't the ones keeping the children under control.... How original.
I sighed and then rang up some of the candy, taking the money from the customers and then putting it away in the cash register. After what felt like ages of doing the same repeated thing for the night I got a text message from an unknown caller ID, which was strange, but I reluctantly opened the message and read it to myself. 'Told by a close friend you work down at CandyClub, seeing if you could bring a few bags down to the haunted house? I'll pay of course'. I sighed, the last thing I wanted to do was take someone else candy to them but I just did as asked and typed up a response saying 'sure'.
I bent down behind the counter to pick up some bags and then filled them with different candies before closing down CandyClub for the night so no one would try to steal, locking the door behind me before heading off down the sidewalk, looking at the kids getting all jacked up in sugar and zero parental vision. It was a pain in the ass but I had to deal with it. After a few minutes of grumpily walking to this haunted house I had arrived and walked up to the front door, looking around as I saw no one. I noticed the door was open but it was too dark to see. I looked around and was about to head inside when I noticed a teal smoke start to appear up. I raised an eyebrow and mumbled something to myself but immediately let out a high pitch screech, almost like a little girl.
A guy dressed as a vampire appearing torso out of the doorway with a grin as he let out a small 'rah'. I tried to catch my breath as I looked the guy in front of me, clenching my chest as I slowly came down from my sudden, well almost heart attack. "Sorry... I didn't mean to scare you so badly, not a lot of adults usually get scared so badly nowadays." He spoke in a forgiving tone as he set a hand on my shoulder, I looked up to him and then reluctantly shrugged it off, not wanting to make a big deal about it before holding up the candy bags to him. "You ordered these, right?" He nodded then grabbed the bangs before handing him some money from his back pocket and then smiled. "Yes, thank you for coming all this way, sorry if I caused any trouble..." I blinked then waved my hands, not wanting him to feel bad for dragging me out here. "No, no.... It's fine, trust me. You're not bothering me." I spoke before looking around the place then seeing him hood out his hand with a smile, I didn't know why but something hit my head like a frying pan when I met his eyes. I thought for a long moment before I heard him speak, breaking the silence. "I'm Streber, Streber Batzz I don't like my last name being mentioned a lot..." he giggled a bit and rubbed the back of his head.
I kept staring at him, lost in his green eyes before finally speaking up as I tried to snap out of my stupid trance. "Uh... Kevin Valentino...." I spoke in a almost a whisper, why was I acting like this? I was always bitchy with people and annoyed but for some reason I couldn't be with him, hell, I barely know this dude. I was snapped out of thought when I heard him speak up again. "We're having a small party here in just a bit, if you wanna stick around for it. It's just between me and my friends." Streber smiled at him again before pointing his thumb inside. I thought about it for a moment, my thoughts running wild before speaking. "You sure...? I don't wanna be an intruder or anything." Streber shook his head and welcomed me in as he led me into the living room. "Nah, it's fine. It'd be nice to have someone new join us for a change." He smiled before naming off his friends, pointing at them. "That's Aria, she's dressed as Frankenstein, Blaz the werewolf bomb...? Dunno, Leon the zombie, Ethan the other vampire, liv the zombie pirate and then Confi.... Whatever she chose to be... we don't talk about it." Streber shrugged before heading into the kitchen to grab some snacks. I hummed a bit before heading over to the couch with the group and sat down, waving at them before looking over to Streber who came out with drinks and a tray of snacks.
They all sat down and talked for a bit, learning stuff about myself and the group. My conversations mainly were spoken with Streber, not really getting a grasp on anyone else. I felt a click when taking to him, Yes he was annoying at points, but it was tolerable. I sighed and rubbed my head when he spoke to the others, trying to understand what the hell I was feeling. Once the group started the party I stood off to the side looking at my phone for a bit before feeling someone grab my arm. I let out a small gasp and looked up, noticing it was just Streber. He pulled me off to the others to go dance. I sighed and chuckled a bit with an eye roll before joining the others to dance.
The night going by in a flash as they hung out. I looked down at my phone realizing the time before telling the others I was gonna head off. As I got to the door I felt a presence behind me and turned around, blinking for a second before letting out a small sigh and spoke. "Need something?" I said as I looked dien to the guy. Streber spoke up after a few moments of silence and held out his phone. "Could I possibly get your number...? Not for anything just, wanted to keep in contact with you." I blinked with wide eyes before shaking my head and nodded, grabbing his phone before punching my numbers into the keypad. Once I had everything set for him I handed it back, giving him a small wave before heading out the door. The streets were a lot more quiet as trick or treating was wrapping up, a few kids still out gettin then last bit of candy or people cleaning things up. I made it to my house which was only a few blocks away and went up to the front door, unlocking it and heading inside, shutting it and locking it again as I went to my bedroom.
I grabbed my clothes and towel, going into the bathroom to take a quick shower before laying down in bed staring at the ceiling. All I could think about was that vampire guy, I don't know why but he wouldn't leave my head. I could feel my face heating up which made me cover it and let out a groan. "What the hell is this...." I spoke in a muffled voice before turning onto my side, trying to fall asleep. After what felt like forever I finally fell asleep, letting the soft breeze of wind from outside slowly put my brain to ease. During the silent night, the phone on the nightstand buzzed with Strebers name.
