After their mission, the fullness of time pressed upon Kawaki. With every chance meeting in training and casual conversations, he felt his heart yearning for connection. Boruto and Sarada supported him relentlessly, nudging him toward Sumire. A shared glance with Sumire now ignited something in him he had been too afraid to confront.
"Why do you keep running away?" Sumire confronted him one evening as they met on the roof of the Hokage Building.
"I'm not running," he snapped, his defenses rising. But deep inside, he felt the walls beginning to crack.
"Then what are you doing? I want to understand you," she said softly, stepping closer, her eyes bore into his.
Kawaki sighed, torn between instinct and desire. "I'm scared. I've never let anyone in before. I don't want to hurt you."
Sumire's expression softened, and she reached out, her fingers brushing against his. "You won't. I promise."
Overwhelmed by the warmth of her touch, Kawaki felt his walls begin to crumble. "I like you, okay? I don't know how to deal with it, but I do." The words spilled out, each one dripping with honesty and vulnerability.
A wide smile broke on Sumire's face. "Then let's figure it out together. I'm not going anywhere, Kawaki."
In that moment, everything shifted. The heaviness of uncertainty lifted, and for the first time, Kawaki allowed himself to embrace the connection blooming between them.
