Dazai paced anxiously back and forth, keeping an eye on Chuuya's frozen form. Atsushi and Akutagawa had returned long ago, yet his love was still rimed with ice. He's alone with Nix, probably fighting for his fucking life, and I can't do anything to help him! Dazai thought bitterly. His claws dug into his hands as he clenched his fists, but he hardly noticed the pain or the blood dripping from the self inflicted wounds. All of his mind was on Chuuya as he willed him to be safe. Please come back...

Finally, Dazai heard the noise he had been waiting for: the cracking of ice. Chuuya returned to his body, swaying on his feet at the dizzying sensation of crossing the border between life and death. Dazai rushed forward to catch him; practically babbling in his happiness and relief that his chibi was ok. Chuuya didn't take in Dazai's words, but just hugged him back tightly. Chuuya could hear Dazai's sobs of relief, but was confused for a moment as he felt tears begin to soak into his clothes. Dazai was crying with all of his eyes as he held Chuuya close, afraid to let go again. Chuuya's heart fluttered with warmth, tears of his own making trails down his dirty and bloodstained face.

"Relax, idiot, I'm safe now," Chuuya laughed, reaching up and grabbing Dazai's head, fingers twining through his hair. Then, he pulled the damn beanpole down to his level, their lips banging together in a greedy kiss. Blood, tears, and saliva mixed on Chuuya's tongue, everything else forgotten besides the feeling of Dazai's lips. A needy whine escaped Chuuya's throat as he devoured Dazai's mouth, his hands balling into fists as he gripped him by the hair. Chuuya poured all of his pent up desire and regret into the kiss; after all, it was love that had brought Chuuya back from the very precipice of the ninth gate.

Dazai's heart skipped a beat, and he let out sharp, happy moan as Chuuya kissed him aggressively; pain and pleasure warring with each other as Chuuya's fox fangs dug into his skin, biting everything in reach. Then, Chuuya's tongue slipped past his lips, and he was completely lost in ecstacy.

"Oh my-" Atsushi gasped, looking away with a blush. He felt extremely embarrassed at witnessing such an intimate moment between his former bosses and superiors. Akutagawa just stared at them with his autistic eyes until Atsushi grabbed his hand and led him away.

"Lets leave those lovebirds in peace," he muttered, secretly wishing that he had the courage to kiss Akutagawa like that...

For once, Dazai was at a loss for words. When Chuuya finally pulled away, all he could do was gape in surprise, excitement, love- his feelings were too jumbled to place under a single category.

"You're such an idiot," Chuuya laughed, seeing Dazai's blank stare and slack jaw. Dazai just stared down at his partner in awe, a smile slowly starting to form on his lips. Then he laughed as well; the laugh of someone who has just come through an overwhelming fear and into a new day.

"Your tail's wagging like crazy, so you really have no room to talk" Dazai teased back, pulling the redhead into a tight hug. He simply found it cute that Chuuya was so happy to see him. "You're my little doggie, back from a walk in death~"

Chuuya smiled fondly at the jab, continuing to wag his tail shamelessly. "You just can't resist, can you? Come on, lets get home before you crack any more stupid jokes."

It was already morning by the time Dazai and Chuuya had cleaned themselves up and gotten to bed at last. They lay in a tangled mess of limbs as the red sunlight filtered through the curtains, casting a soft light on the two lovers. After all the hardship and danger, they could finally rest. Chuuya sighed happily as he nuzzled against Dazai's neck, savoring the feeling of being close to his lover without the barrier of his bandages. Dazai had been worried that Chuuya might be repulsed by all of his monstrous eyes, but of course, Chuuya loved every part of him. I should have never doubted that he would accept me. He never judged me for my scars, after all... Dazai thought as he drifted off to sleep.

Chuuya didn't wake up until late afternoon. He knew that Dazai was awake as well by the sound of his breathing, and-

"What are you doing with my tail, you menace?" Chuuya asked groggily, turning his head to look at his favorite bastard.

"It's fluffy, and it makes me happy to pet it. Besides, Chibi never lets me touch it when he's awake," Dazai replied, letting go of the fluffy fox fur. He expected Chuuya to pull it away as usual, but to his surprise, he felt the soft fur brushing against his arm. He met Chuuya's gaze, and saw that the little redhead was smiling.

"You just can't resist petting your dog, now can you? Go ahead, if you want to so much."

"You're really letting me?" Dazai asked softly, his eyes widening. Chuuya, letting me pet him and acknowledging that he's my dog? Am I dreaming?

Chuuya nodded, his heart warming at the way Dazai carefully grabbed his tail and started running his fingers through the soft fur. He leaned forward and kissed Dazai on the head, pulling the idiot mackerel closer so that he could hold him in his arms.

"I love you," Chuuya whispered as he nuzzled his face into Dazai's hair.

Dazai let out a happy sigh, feeling more at peace than he had ever felt before. "And I love you too. Always."

Even though Dazai was a lying, cheating, damned soul, Chuuya felt in his heart that that simple phrase was pure truth. He knew that things would never be easy between them, and that they still had a lot of problems to work out, but he wasn't worried about it anymore.

After all, they had eternity ahead of them to figure it out.
