As the weeks passed in the city, Coco began to find her rhythm. Classes were demanding but invigorating, and she felt herself growing more confident in her abilities. Yet, amidst the excitement, there was a constant balancing act between her studies, volunteering, and her thoughts of home.

One afternoon, while in the library, Coco was deeply engrossed in her coursework when her phone buzzed. It was a message from Mateo.

Mateo: Hey! Just checking in. How’s everything?

A smile broke across Coco's face as she typed back.

Coco: Busy but good! Just trying to keep up with everything. How’s life back home?

Mateo: Same old. Jason’s still being a jerk, but we’re managing. Just missing you!

Coco’s heart ached at the thought of her family facing challenges without her. She replied quickly.

Coco: I miss you all too. Can’t wait to come home and visit!

Mateo: You should bring some of your new city friends next time!

Coco pondered this for a moment. Sharing her new life with them felt like a big step, but she liked the idea.

Coco: That’s a great idea! I’ll plan something for next month.

As she put her phone down, her heart fluttered at the thought of her next visit home. But just as quickly, the weight of her responsibilities settled back in. She needed to focus on her studies to ensure her dreams didn’t slip away.

The following week, her schedule intensified. Midterms were approaching, and the pressure began to mount. Coco buried herself in her studies, often staying up late in the library, surrounded by stacks of books.

One evening, as she struggled to stay focused on her notes, Mia dropped into the seat across from her. “You look like you need a break,” she said, concern etched on her face.

“I’m fine,” Coco replied, though she could feel the fatigue weighing on her. “Just a lot to study.”

Mia raised an eyebrow. “You know it’s okay to take a breather, right? You’re doing great, but you need to take care of yourself too.”

Coco sighed, running a hand through her hair. “I know, but I can’t afford to fall behind. This scholarship means everything.”

“Let’s grab some coffee, then. You need fuel if you’re going to conquer these exams,” Mia insisted.

Coco hesitated but eventually nodded, grateful for the break. They headed to their favorite coffee shop, and as they sipped their drinks, the atmosphere felt lighter.

“Have you thought more about the volunteer event we did?” Mia asked, stirring her coffee. “I think we should plan more activities like that.”

Coco felt her spirits lift. “I’d love that! It was so rewarding.”

Mia’s eyes sparkled with enthusiasm. “Great! Let’s brainstorm some ideas. We could even involve the other students. It’ll be fun!”

As they talked, Coco realized how much she enjoyed these moments of connection. Amidst the demands of school, it was important to nurture her friendships and create memories.

The days flew by, and soon it was the week of midterms. Coco felt the weight of anticipation in the air, her nerves simmering just below the surface. As she walked into her first exam, she reminded herself to breathe, focusing on the support she had from her family and Mateo.

After a long day of testing, she and Mia decided to unwind by exploring the city. They wandered through bustling markets, sampled street food, and marveled at the vibrant street art that adorned the walls. Coco felt her spirit lift with each new sight.
