"Hello, Namaste Major Rajput."
Raksha could feel the ground below her feet slipping and her throat constricting.
It's been a long time.
Raksha clearly remembers the last day she was addressed in this manner before getting discharged from duty. And now suddenly hearing it from someone who probably isn't old enough to know what it means to her—wait—a kid.
She was supposed to meet Satya's kid, wasn't she?
She looked up again to witness the same electric smile that had welcomed her, but a little worry seeped in this time.
"Are you alright, Major?" the woman asked worriedly.
Grimacing at how her heart skipped a beat at the address, she swallowed thickly before saying, "Not a Major anymore, Madam. Haven't been one for a while now."
"Once a major always a major, Miss Rajput." the woman said not unkindly.
Raksha looked at the woman standing with her back leaning against the table's edge and hands resting on it supporting her petite frame. The black doe eyes with a magnetic allure peered at her almost curiously. The woman was practically a photocopy of Satya, minus the irritation and impatience in the features. The crisp blue shirt folded to the elbows with the black vest, trousers to match, and a black watch resting on the dainty wrist of the woman managed to make Raksha feel a bit self-conscious about her appalling appearance. And that spoke volumes because there was hardly anything that could make Raksha feel that way.
This woman gave off the main character vibes.
"You seem unwell to me, Major," the woman said marching decisively towards her like she calculated every step before taking them.
Unlike someone.
Ignoring her self-proclaimed advisor-subconscious, Raksha managed to get a glimpse of the nameplate on the table.
Finally.
A name to address the young charming lady in her mind.
Yashaswi Agnihotri.
CEO.
Indeed, a main character.
"Unbelievable. Madam Satya chose her as your bodyguard? She keeps zoning out after every question and shows no signs of recovery." The grumpy man from earlier who Raksha had already forgotten aggressively butted in.
"You seem a bit revolted at the decision, of me going to have another bodyguard. May I know the reason, Gyan?" Raksha heard Yashaswi asking the man.
"It's not about the decision to have another bodyguard rather it's about who's chosen to be it. This woman doesn't seem capable to me." Gyan added completely unaware of the wounds he had managed to dig his hands in and tear apart.
"If you have anything against my mother's decision, you should take it up with her rather than moaning about it to me," Yashaswi advised helpfully.
Raksha saw the man open his mouth to say something only to close it when he saw her looking at him. When he finally turned to perhaps leave deeming it was enough for the day-
Yashaswi asked, "Gathered enough courage to rebel against my mother?" Then taking a deep concerned breath, she added, " Well, it was nice knowing you."
Raksha tried stifling her laugh threatening to escape. She only had a brief interaction with Satya but can bet her entire salary which wasn't much, that the woman would have the head served on the platter of anyone who would try and rebel against her.
