CHARLIE SWAN SAT ON THE STAIRS OF HIS HOME WITH HIS HEAD IN HIS HANDS AND TEARS IN HIS EYES. It wasn't but moments ago that Renee had scooped up Bella and fled from his life, leaving him alone. Well...not completely alone.

His head shot up at the sound of crying coming from his and Renee's shared room, well it was his room now he supposed. Wiping away the tears, he pulled himself up and walked up the creaky stairs with shaky breaths and trembling hands.

He soon found himself staring down at the crying infant that had managed to wiggle her way out of the swaddle she had been placed in an hour before. Her face was scrunched up and her little fists waved in the air, demanding comfort. And then she blinked her eyes open, and Charlie felt himself melt at the stormy green eyes that peered up at him with such a need for attention.

His heart broke when he realized that Renee had just left their youngest daughter, abandoning her with her father to run off to California with Bella. He then realized he was all the baby had, and she was all he had. They had both been left behind in that old house.

"Shhh, Daddy's here." Charlie cooed as he gently picked up the crying child, holding her to his chest and kissing her head. "I got you. Daddys' got you, Aurora."

Aurora's cries turned into whines as Charlie rocked on his feet, rubbing her back and talking to her. "It's you and me, Kiddo. My sweet Aurora."

The next day, Charlie was knocking on the door of his oldest friend's house, holding Aurora in his arms.

Sarah Black opened the door, her belly swollen with her and Billy's third child. Her whiskey-colored eyes widened at the sight of the man standing before her. Charlie looked as if he had gotten no sleep, with dark circles under his eyes and tear stains on his face.

"Charlie?" Sarah gasped out, opening the door wider. "Oh, sweetheart. Come in! Billy, Charlie is here!"

Billy Black rolled into the living room, surprised that Charlie was here when he had work today, but when he saw the look on his best friend's face he knew something was wrong.

Twenty minutes later, Billy Black and Harry Clearwater were sitting by Charlie in the backyard around a small fire, all drinking beer and listening as the Swan man explained what had happened. He could barely finish his story before he broke down in tears, causing Harry to rub his shoulder, while Billy looked murderous.
