I grunted as I lifted the sixty-pound dumbbell. I was on my last set of my lifting session. I was dripping in pure sweat, which was the last thing I wanted, but I lifted heavy today, so I'm proud.

I put back the dumbbells on the rack, going over to grab my water bottle. I took a much-needed drink of water. I was enjoying peace before I heard footsteps from behind me.

"Jack, Becky told us to come to the film room. She said she had some important news to share." Kelsey, my teammate, told me.

I nodded as I took my last swig of water. Sighing as I closed the top. I grabbed my phone, seeing as it was going off. I just turned it on silent. Multiple notifications wasn't new to me.

I followed behind Kelsey to the film room. She opened the door, and I followed her in. The room was filled with the coaching staff and all of the returnees for the season.

"Nice of you to join us, Jack Jack." Sydney snickered, making all the attention fall on me. I just rolled my eyes, shaking my head.

I found an open seat by a tired A'ja, which made me make a mental note to ask her what that was about.

A few seconds had passed before Becky came in with her glasses on and some paper in hand. I knew it was about to be something because she looked serious.

"Good afternoon, everyone." She started sighing as she took off her glasses to look at us. "Well, as you know, the season is coming up, and with the absence of Candace Parker due to her retirement." She paused.

Everyone looked at Becky in shock. This is the first time we were hearing about this. We expected her to come back even though she suffered an injury last season.

"Wait, Candace announced her retirement today?" A'ja sat up, looking at Becky for some answers. Shit, I was too with Chelsea in rehab and Kiah just coming off her injury. Our team is probably going to struggle.

"Yeah, she did." Becky nodded, looking at our coaching staff for approval. " Anyways, to try to bring some stronger presence for our team, we had a trade with Seattle." I raised my eyebrows in confusion. We didn't need to put in a trade to find talent. I mean, training camp is just two days away.

"We got Gabby Williams out of that trade." It felt like time had just paused and all eyes just fell on me.

Gabby and I do have history, and it seemed like everyone knew that. This just really put in perspective how shitty this season is about to be.

"Damn, Jackie, you okay?" I heard A'ja whisper as Becky continued to talk. I just nodded. Unable to put how I was feeling at the moment into words.

"My trade is finalized?" I asked Talisa, the general manager of the settle storm.

" Yes. All the details have been confirmed. You're good to go to Vegas." She said. I nodded my head hearing this information in shock, honestly.

I put in a trade request at the end of last season due to me feeling unfilled with the organization. If it wasn't for the team, I probably wouldn't have stayed as long as I did. I would've asked for a trade sooner.

I'm happy that they rewarded my request of the trade because sometimes they fight you on it. So I'm super happy they understood. I just didn't think Vegas would actually pick me up.

I knew they were in the conversation, but it's actually shocking they did it considering the history I have with one of their valuable players.

"Alright, that's good. Thanks for everything, Talisa. I wish you the best." I said into the phone.

"Same to you, Gabby. Go be great." I smiled as the phone call ended. I'm glad our relationship isn't left off on bad terms. Maybe I'll go back to Seattle.

I sighed, looking out the window, knowing that this season is about to get chaotic.

"Babe, do you have all your stuff packed? Our plane leaves in four hours." Marine, my fiancée, walked into the room.

I turned around, seeing her smile walking over to me.

"What's wrong? You look like you've got some bad news." She wrapped her hands around my waist, looking at me.

"I'm good, baby. I just got traded." I said, looking at her. Her smile widened. I could tell she was happy for me. She leaned in, giving me a quick kiss.

"Oh my gosh! Baby, that's wonderful. You're going to do great. Where did they trade you?" She asked.

"To Vegas," I said lowly. I watched her smile drop as she unwrapped her hands around me.

" What? Why? I thought they were trading you to Phoenix." She folded her arms clearly not happy with the trade.

"Yeah, I know that's what they were saying, but I guess Vegas swooped in with the better offer for me." I told her.

"Well, Vegas is lucky to have you. I just don't want you there." She rolled her eyes. I grabbed her, pulling her closer to me.

"Why?" I said, cracking a smile, trying to cheer her up.

"You know why. I don't want you playing basketball with your ex-girlfriend for a whole season when I'm overseas." She huffed, pushing me away.

" Babe I'm not worried about Jackie. It's only us, and you can visit me on your off time, and we can do long distance again." I said trying to make the situation better.

"Keyword again." She turned around, walking out of the room.

I sighed. I don't know how this season is going to go. Playing on a team with my ex for four straight months. Sounds like hell to me.
