THE PAYNE FAMILY roots date back to the 1800s when their ancestor, Charles Payne, journeyed from the slums of Louisiana across the Midwest in pursuit of the American dream.
Whether by chance or destiny, he chose to settle in West Montana around the same time as a Dutton was fleeing Texas.
