"Vera, have you been snooping through my logbook?" Seena asked, her tone laced with suspicion.

Vera's heart dropped into her stomach, but she fought to keep her cool, forcing herself to lie. "Huh? No, why would I?"

"Then why is it not in its usual place?" Seena pressed, her eyes narrowing.

"Oh, that," Vera stammered. "I might have moved it while cleaning your room earlier."

Seena eyed her, unconvinced but unwilling to dig deeper, at least for now. "Hmm," she muttered. Turning on her heel, she added, "I made food for us. Set the table while I take a shower." Without waiting for a response, Seena disappeared into the bathroom.

Vera exhaled sharply, her hands trembling as she fumbled with the utensils, her mind racing. She hadn't anticipated this. She knew Seena suspected her. The truth was bound to come out.

After a few minutes, Seena returned, still in her towel, her damp hair clinging to her skin. She sat across from Vera, who was visibly on edge. Seena's intense gaze bore into her.

"Are you that scared of roasted chicken?" Seena chuckled, noticing Vera's unease.

Vera weakly smiled. "It's... my period. I'm just not feeling great."

Seena's eyes softened slightly. "Understandable. Pass me the salt."

"Oh, sorry, I forgot to bring it to the table," Vera stammered, hastily rising from her seat. "I'll go get it."

"It's fine, stay. I'll get it. I also want to try that new sauce we got" Seena stood, casually drying her hair as she walked to the kitchen.

"Where did you say the salt was again?" Seena's voice cut through the silence, But when she spots and reached for the salt, her hand froze. A sharp, cold pain seared through her lower side. She gasped, a scream escaping her lips as she realized what had happened. She staggered, looking down to see blood dripping from the wound.

Behind her, Vera stood, the sharp object still in her hand, tears streaming down her face. "I'm sorry..." Vera choked out; her voice filled with desperation.

Seena collapsed to her knees, her face twisted in pain and betrayal. "Why, Vera? I thought we were friends," she rasped, her voice broken, her eyes locking onto Vera's in disbelief.

"I'm sorry... it was the only way..." Vera sobbed, her voice trembling, her guilt heavy and overwhelming.

Seena, still clutching her wound, looked up at her with a pained expression. "You think you're better off without me?" she asked, trying to make her feel the weight of her actions.

Vera tried to harden herself, standing taller, the knife trembling in her hand. "You're better off dead..." she muttered, though even she wasn't convinced.

Suddenly, there was a loud knock at the door, followed by the voices of guards. "What's going on in there? We heard a scream!"

Vera turned towards the door, panic setting in. Her mind raced, unsure of what to do. She looked back at Seena, who lay bleeding on the floor, a twisted smile on her lips.

"I was going to tell you," Seena coughed, blood trickling from her mouth, "the guards were coming to visit today." She let herself collapse further, her voice dripping with amusement, as if this was all part of a bigger game. Vera's eyes widened in horror as the full weight of what she'd done settled over her. Seena could have healed herself, but she wasn't. She was letting herself bleed out, and Vera was powerless to stop it.

Vera's panic reached a fever pitch. "Please, Seena... heal yourself. I'm so sorry. I didn't mean it. I swear, I'll never do anything like this again!" she pleaded, her hands soaked in blood, her mind spinning out of control.

But Seena just laughed weakly. "Live with your choices, Vera. This is what you wanted," she said, her breath labored. The blood pooled around her, spreading across the floor as the knocking from the guards grew louder.

Vera stood frozen in that dimly lit room, her breath shallow and uneven as the reality of what she had done settled over her like a suffocating weight. Her hands, trembling violently, were still stained with blood—the blood of her roommate, her only friend. She couldn't tear her eyes away from the lifeless body sprawled on the floor, a mixture of horror and disbelief paralyzing her. A sickening guilt clawed at her chest, making it hard to breathe. She stumbled backward, her legs weak beneath her, hitting the wall behind her with a soft thud.

She clutched her head, fingers digging into her scalp as if trying to force herself to think, to make sense of it all.

"I didn't mean to..." she whispered, her voice barely audible, cracked with anguish" I only wanted to help..." she stood up and walked towards the front door shaking

The full weight of her betrayal hit her like a tidal wave, and suddenly, everything she had done felt unbearable. She pressed her hands to her face, sobbing uncontrollably now, the guilt cutting through her like shards of glass. The walls seemed to close in on her, her mind unravelling as the enormity of her crime consumed her. She had crossed a line she could never return from, and the crushing remorse left her broken and lost, unsure if she could ever live with herself again.

The door burst open, and two guards stormed in, spears raised, their eyes locking onto Vera.

"I... I didn't mean to kill her!" Vera screamed, her voice hoarse from crying, her face twisted in anguish.

The guards, confused and alarmed, pointed their weapons at her, unsure of the situation.

But then, a voice cut through the tension.

"Wow, gentlemen, calm down," Seena's voice echoed from the kitchen, casual and almost teasing.

The guards turned, their eyes wide in shock as Seena emerged from the kitchen, still bloodied, but alive. She smiled, holding up her hands in mock surrender. "My roommate here just felt guilty for killing a mom rat in our kitchen. Isn't she the sweetest? Even though that rat brought chaos, spilling sauce all over me and the floor."

Seena was still wrapped in her towel, the blood on her skin mixed with the sauce. She gave an apologetic look. "I'm sorry I didn't rush to the door sooner. I didn't want to greet you like this." She shyly glanced away, playing the part of the embarrassed high priestess since she is still in a towel.

The guards, clearly embarrassed themselves, lowered their weapons and averted their gazes. "We're sorry, High Priestess. We heard a scream and thought something had happened. We won't stay long—the king requests your presence at the castle first thing in the morning," they said before hastily retreating.

As their footsteps faded, Seena closed the door and turned back to Vera, who sat crumpled on the floor, tears still streaming down her face. Seena knelt beside her, gently wiping the tears away with her bloodied hand.

"I care about you, Vera," Seena whispered, her tone soft but edged with menace. "So don't touch my things again, okay?" She grinned, her expression dark and twisted.

Then, as if nothing had happened, she stood up and offered her hand. "Come on, the food's getting cold."

Vera, still trembling, allowed Seena to pull her to her feet and place her back in her chair. She sat at the table, her mind racing, her hands trembling as she watched Seena calmly eat her meal, completely unfazed by the blood-soaked towel and the chaos that had just unfolded. The room, once filled with tension, was now eerily quiet, save for the sound of Seena chewing, while Vera's world slowly crumbled around her.
