Chapter 7: The Legend of the Princess
It's choice - not chance - that determines your destiny.
I appeared in my room as the first light of early morning appeared through the blinds of my locked window. I felt a dull ache as I moved my arm to open my blinds and realised that Travis spell must have grazed past me, so the wound wasn’t deep. As I looked at it in the long mirror on my wall I noticed how much it was bleeding. I needed to get this wound healed before my parents saw and asked question but I need two hands. Dam I will probably have to get Luka to help me. How am I going to explain why I have a spell graze on my arm as I was meant to be at home all night? He didn’t know about Travis, well no one knew about Travis so it’s going to be hard to explain this wound without mentioning him at some point.
“Where have you been, Alex?” I jumped as someone spoke from my chair nearest to the door. I spun around and to my surprise I found Luka. He was just sitting there like he had been there for hours just looking at me with eyes of confusion and near anger.
“I…Ummm…went….” I stammered as I looked for an idea any idea from my room to help me answer his easy question.
“Alex?”
“I’m sorry Luka.” I nearly wailed as I sunk to my knees, this was not an act but real. I couldn’t lie to Luka but I knew I had to and it was tearing me apart.
“Alex?” Luka asked again as he got up slowly from the chair and made his way towards me. He sunk to his knees as well and looked directly into my eyes. I couldn’t take it anymore and looked down to the floor as silent tears streamed down my face, I had to tell him or I was going to lose control…again.
“Where did you go Alex?” Luka asked again as he placed a hand under my chin and lifted me head to meet his gaze.
“To the cemetery.” I croaked because the memory of seeing Jason’s grave was coming back to me.
“To see Jason?” Luka asked and I knew he took to heart what I had said at dinner. He said his name for me but not for himself; they were best friends. Luka had known Jason all his life; I knew I could count on Luka when it came to Jason death.
I didn’t even flinch at the mention of his name, because it had finally felt real…Jason was dead and I had to move on for his sake. I had to fulfil my destiny and be the Princess the world has been waiting for. I was going to make him proud of me, I was going to be strong but for now I couldn’t help but break down as my life weighed me down like a man holding up the world. I finally nodded my response to Luka whom was still waiting for an answer. And with that he pulled me into his arms and I placed my head on his bare chest. Wait! What? Bare chest. I just realised that Luka was wearing nothing but shorts, now I felt awkward as I kept my head on his bare skin feeling the warmth of it and listening to him breathe. I cried silently for awhile in Luka’s embrace but it ended too fast as Luka notice the blood on my arm.
“What happened?” he asked shocked and worried at how much blood was on my arm and taking a closer look. He pulled my arm closer for him to see the long gash Travis spell had caused. He didn’t seem to wait for my answer as he asked another question.
