The blinding sunlight was at my back
and you were laughing,
leaning against my shadow
and turning into a blur
Your white dress was swaying
and I held you tight
as light passed through you

I'll go together with you

In this never-ending summer

kinich surveyed the bustling marketplace, his gaze cool, detached. another day, another contract. except this time, the mark wasn't a jewel or a painting, nor was it an assassination. it was the royal palace. idiotic, maybe, but the pay had been enough to tempt even him.

he hadn't expected to stumble upon her,  the princess, a wisp of a thing with eyes too big for her face, attempting to climb out a window. an accident waiting to happen. he should have left her. should have finished the job.

instead, he found himself—willingly, to his surprise—guiding a naive princess through parts of the city, all for a sum that bordered on ludicrous. and when her father, the king, learned of his daughter's escapades and the thief who'd aided and assisted her... well, let's just say kinich was no stranger to irony.

now, pardoned for his crimes and employed as the princess's personal guard, kinich watched as she nearly tripped over her own feet, a laugh bubbling from her lips. she lived her life with a frantic sort of joy, like a hummingbird trying to visit every flower before the sun set.

closing his eyes and opening them several times, the vision before him becomes blurry. the wind that blew over became scorching hot on his skin, just like how she liked it. but even that's a summer he can't come back to.

his vision clears and he's alone, in a never-ending summer.
