  Nightmare was typically a cold and sadistic individual, one many considered heartless. However some had come to learn that behind his malicious words and actions, he did sympathize with some. Very few managed to look deep enough to see it. 

Nightmare Sans POV

I had no intention of finding this odd individual, but now that I had I found I was interested in them. (y/n), that was what they were called. I had found out after watching them for a while. Their negativity levels were high, and it had led to me watching them, feeding off that energy. It almost seemed to be a never ending supply, not even Dust gave off this much hatred and agony. But the longer I watched the more I learned, (y/n)'s backstory wasn't like many, or perhaps it was and their responses to it were unique. A history of abuse, neglect, and oh so much more than that. It was intriguing. As days passed I learnt more and more about them. Their defense mechanisms, the way their mind worked, I had even learned what their favorite place was.

But that isn't what stood out to me, no, it was their will. The fire that kept them going despite how easy they knew it would be to give into death. Each day they got up, each time they were put down by others they fought back, each setback they were thrown they pushed through. I don't believe they even knew what they were fighting for at this point, they simply understood they could not just give up. And so I made the decision that they'd be valuable to me.

No POV

Days passed as the sun rose and fell, Nightmare planned and arranged for his little proposition with (y/n). All while (y/n) struggled through each day, each hour, each minute unknowing that things may soon turn in their favor. Time went on because of course it never waited around for anyone. Until the day came, (y/n) left the house to push through until 4pm yet again, but unbeknownst to them everything was about to shift. Nightmare waited for them. When he finally caught sight of the human he stopped them. "Ah (y/n), I've been waiting to speak with you. I have a proposition"

Nightmare's POV

It was obvious, should I say, to know I was pleased once I finally managed to have them agree. The hard part was done now, and I could patch them up. Get them new clothes, have them bathed and fed, I was sure that I could turn things around for them. Picking them up like a stray cat and getting the others to agree to this may be a struggle, but I believe it's worth it. Even a human could be an asset to me against the stars, and if I were to be honest I had grown fond of them. Their personality was one that could be appreciated, and would fit nicely with the others. And so I teleported both them and I to the mansion before demanding everyone to gather in the main room.

No POV

Killer was watching Shade with an unsettling grin, Horror was barely paying attention as he tried to eat Cross's overly large knife, Error was apparently asleep and ignoring the whole ordeal, Dust was looked emotionless although a tad skeptical of Shade, and Cross just seemed to pity them with how unhealthy they looked. But the attention immediately snapped to Nightmare when he spoke, "this human is under my protection for now. They are allowed around the mansion, and are welcome to anything they want unless I specify otherwise. None of you are to harm them, understood?"

They all, with the exception of Error, glanced at each other carefully before slowly nodding one by one. "Sure boss," that came from Killer. Cross mumbled something about humans not being trustworthy but made no move to contradict Nightmare's orders. 

And so a group of what had once been six, would become seven
