"And I wonder why I tear myself down to be built back up again, Oh, I hope somehow, I'll wake up young again."

Never in her life had Evangeline been so happy

Never in her life had Evangeline been so happy. She had a boyfriend that was actually nice to her, she finally didn't have to hide what she was, and her mom definitely liked Damon more than she ever liked Tyler. She was on cloud nine.

She clutched a pillow to her chest as she sat cross crossed on Damon's bed, her eyes wide and her smile wider as he told her about all the crazy adventures he'd been apart of over the last century. Her hair was up in a messy bun and she wore pajama pants and a tank top that made her look like any girl at a slumber party.

He told her mostly the good stuff, he was terrified of scaring her off, they had only been together for a couple days. He didn't tell her about all the people he's killed, manipulated, or used. But he did tell her the interesting stuff, at least, what she'd find interesting.

As he shared stories of his past, he couldn't help but grow increasingly curious about her. Questions nagged at the back of his mind, such as how did she become a mermaid? And what was it like? How did she keep it a secret so well? What other stuff could she do?

"Enough about me." He cleared his throat, he sat across from her on the bed and he had to admit that seeing her like this was incredibly endearing. "I'm dying to know, Peach, how'd you become a mermaid? I wanna know all about it."

She hesitated before speaking, she'd never had anyone to talk about it with before. "I never became a mermaid, I was just born that way." She admitted. "And I hate keeping it a secret because I just hate lyin', but I know I have to." She paused.

"It's the most freeing feeling in the world, swimming I mean, being able to breathe and see so much clearer underwater, it just really feels like home." She smiled softly. "And it comes with perks too, like quick healing and invisibility." She admitted, her tone was shy but there was a hint of pride as she giggled softly and seemingly disappeared.

But Damon could still hear her heart beating. He pretended not to pick up on the fact that in her invisible form she climbed off the bed and walked behind where he sat, throwing her arms around his neck from behind on the bed. "Gotcha!" She laughed softly as she reappeared.

She was too cute he just couldn't bring himself to tell her she wasn't the least bit stealthy. He turned his torso and grabbed her, laying her down next to him as he too fell back. They both laid on their back, staring at each other with intent gazes and soft smiles.

"I like your hair like that, you should do it more often." He told her, brushing on of the loose front pieces away from her face. He delicately traced one of the little fins that protruded from either side of her neck, they were so unique. "And I like these."

"Thanks." She shook her head, her nose wrinkling a little bit at the idea. "Usually I only ever do it like this when I'm alone, I hate having my hair up, my fins are so freaky looking, I always keep them hidden." She wasn't the best at accepting compliments, but she sure did appreciate them when she got them.
