First Day In The City

Anthromorph City. Finally, a place where we belonged! For most of my life, I'd lived in the countryside and with other humans who saw me as a freak. My childhood was very unpleasant due to me being an Orc. Everyone knew about the stereotypes that Orcs would either kill and eat your children or that we'd have sex with every woman we see. It was hurtful when kids called me a rapist when I didn't even know the subject of what they were on about and when I grew to learn the stereotype, I did my best to ignore it. For reference, this is what I look like.

Ever since I was a kid, it was my dream to come and work here in Anthromorph City

Ever since I was a kid, it was my dream to come and work here in Anthromorph City. Over 80% of the population were comprised of people who were either Orcs or other fantastical monsters like myself or humans with animal features. It was a city that was free of discrimination and a dream come true!

???: Y/n, you're day dreaming again.

A low bored voice spoke from my right. Looking over, I see my first and only friend, Mutasim Lycan. He was a smaller and thinner man compared to me. He had two wolf tails and ears. Because of his dual tails, he was like me, outcast and discriminated against by almost everyone. We met in school. I was being bullied by some kids and he helped me out. Ever since then, we were friends. Though Mutasim kept to himself quite a lot.

Mutasim: You gonna help set your room up or what?

Mutasim: You gonna help set your room up or what?

Oh right! We were in a motel. Since Mutasim had just gotten his massage licence, we were now opening up our business. However, we didn't have the money to get our own proper store so we had to settle for hosting our massage business in the motel we're staying in. It's not something I would have preferred but we had to make do with what we got.

Y/n: Sorry M. Just... Still can't believe we're finally here!

I walk over to a foldable table and open it in the middle of the room. Mutasim stretches his arms upwards and sighs.

Mutasim: Yeah yeah... You know you got your massaging licence like three years before I did. You could've just immediately went into work.

Y/n: Yeah, but then who'd look out for you? I mean, you are moody, quiet, kind of a loner.

Mutasim: Just the way I like it. And why are you setting up the bed/bench when we've not even handed out the advertisements yet?

Y/n: Oh! Uhhh...

Mutasim: We'll set the room up today and tomorrow we can start posting the advertisements. It was a three hour journey to the city and I'm sure you're exhausted.

Y/n: W-Well yeah, but I'd rather just get the preparation stuff out of the way.

He nods slowly, seeing my point.

Mutasim: Alright. Fine. Where are the flyers?

I point at my backpack.

Y/n: They're in the big zip.

I continue setting up the room while Mutasim has a look through my bag for the flyers. I hum a low tune as I set up the room before Mutasim groans.

Mutasim: Dude, did you really have to pack your damn toys? You didn't even clean one of these!

Y/n: What?! I thought I put them in the small zip!

Mutasim: Obviously not. Gross.

He wipes his hand off, cringing as he did so. Thankfully, he had found the flyers.

Mutasim: Anyway, how do you wanna do this? Should we both go out and post them or do you want me to go ahead on my own?

Y/n: How about you stay here and work on making this place look nice and I can go post the adverts?

He shrugs and hands the papers to me.

Mutasim: Suit yourself. Just stay out of trouble big guy.

I take the flyers and exit the motel. Upon stepping outside, I take a deep breath of the air and begin exploring the city, posting the adverts on walls, lampposts and other surfaces. Before I knew it, it was night time and I had just a few flyers left to post. I walk down a dark side street and gulp quietly. This place didn't seem very pleasant to be around but I was determined to post all my adverts.

Bringing out all my courage, I walk down the eerie street and post the adverts on all the lampposts. As soon as I placed my last one down, I turned to leave, only to see three normal humans holding bats in their hands.

Human1: Gross. An Orc? Here? I thought they were all too ugly to show their faces.

Human2: What are you doing here fat pig? Looking for easy marks?

Y/n: N-No. No, I was just posting adverts here.

Human3: A massage parlour? Seriously? Who'd want you with your giant greasy fingers to touch them?

Y/n: Please, I'm not here to hurt anyone, really.

Human1: Too bad. It's bad enough this city's full of you freakish animals. But now an Orc trying to be all nice? Boys, let's teach the fat guy a lesson.

They ready their bats and I back up with my hands raised. I never enjoyed fighting and I wasn't exactly skilled in it. But I did have a great deal of strength thanks to genetics and my build. Before the three humans can attack me, somebody came up behind the leader and kicked him in the back of the knee before wrapping arm around his neck and held a knife over his heart. It was Mutasim!

Mutasim: Back the fuck off now. Leave the bats and go back home.

Human2: Justin! Let him go you furry!

Mutasim: Wow, real original. I'm so hurt.

He says sarcastically. He digs the knife a little into the man's chest, making him wince in pain.

Justin: Stop! Stop! Please! W-We'll go! We'll leave!

Mutasim: Drop the bats.

The two humans share a glance before reluctantly dropping their bats. As soon as the bats hit the floor, Mutasim let go of the leader.

Mutasim: Now fuck off, all of you.

The trio glare at him and then me before running off. I sigh and rub the back of my head as Mutasim stares at me with his arms crossed.

Y/n: I'm sorry.

Mutasim: Just be thankful I get worried for you. If I wasn't here that could've gone worse. Now cmon, let's go back to the motel and get some sleep.

I nod and follow my friend back to the motel. Despite Mutasim's cold exterior, he really did care about me and it showed through protectiveness like that.

For both our sakes, I hoped we wouldn't run into trouble like that again...
