Derek Shepard's New Intern

Hospital Parking Lot

"Hey Christina, you ready for Ms. Timber's surgery this morning?" Derek asked.

"I don't know if I can scrub in. I'm not in the best of moods today." Christina said taking a sip of her coffee.

"Oh, what happened?" Derek asked.

"Owen and I had an argument again this morning." She said while Owen is pulling up. "Speaking of the devil."

Owen got out of his car and tried to catch up to Christina who was walking away. "Christina can we talk about this?" Owen said.

"Not right now Owen. I have a surgery to prep for." She says turning to look at Owen. "So if you excuse me." She says walking into the hospital.

"Owen, what excatly's going on?" Derek asks.

"I was talking about starting a family with her again, and she just starting yelling, and I was yelling. It's all just a huge mess." Owen says sighing putting his hands on his hips. "Anyway's let's go save lives."

Break Room

"Hey Bailey, I have a question for you." Derek says looking over his shoulder. Bailey stopped in her tracks, let out a huge sigh, and turned around.

"What is it Derek?" Bailey said annoyed.

"Is it ok if I borrow Bre again?" Derek asks.

"Why doesn't she become your intern Shepard. All she talked about late last night was the surgery you guys did. Do you know how annoying it is to hear an intern who never seen a transplant talk about it all night?" Bailey says. Derek just stares at her with a blank face. "No I didn't think so. She's all yours."

In the Scrub Room

"Is Bre already in there?" Derek asks Christina and Callie.

"No, Bre's with Stephen and Arizona." Callie says.

Derek sighs loud. He looks into the OR room, watching the patient look at the nurses and talking to everyone. "Don't be nervous Derek. Everything will be fine. Act like it's another tumor." He thought to himself.

Derek walked out of the room, while Christina and Callie are still in the scrub room. "What's wrong with him today?" Callie said.

"I don't know, he looks nervous. Best not to ask him what's wrong." Christina said drying off.

During the Surgery

"I need more light over here!" Derek yells at one of the nurses. "Page Bre! Get here in here!

One of the nurses runs to the phone. Seconds later she returns to the patient.

20 Minutes Later

"You paged Dr. Shepard?" Bre asked walking in.

"Where were you? I told you this morning to be here." Derek said.

"I'm sorry, Dr. Shepard. I just totally forgot. I'm here now, what do you want me to do?" Bre said.

"Nothing now. Because I just closed her up. Thank you anyway." Derek said leaving the OR.

"Bre if you want to be a surgeon, you have to make sure your at the surgery's on time." Callie said also leaving the OR with Christina.

At Lunch

"Derek are you ok?" Meredith asked.him.

"I'm just stressed out, that's all. My intern didn't even show up to Ms. Timbers surgery until I closed. Maybe taking Bre as a intern was a mistake." Derek said folding his arms.

"Just give her another chance Derek." Meredith said. "I have to go. I'll see you later."

Ms. Timbers Room

"How we feeling Ms. Timbers?" Derek asked.

"I feel light headed. And I have a slight headache. But my back feels better. And I can move my hand." Ms. Timbers said.

"Good, I'll be checking up on you later." Derek says smiling.

"Ok Dr. Shepard." Ms. Timbers says.

In the Break Room

"Bailey how do you deal with Bre?" Derek asks.

"Like I do the rest of the interns. Ignore them mostly. Why?" Bailey says.

"It's just that....." He got intrupped by his pager. "I got to."

Ms. Timbers Room.

"What happened?" Derek says rushing into the room.

"She passed out. Her vitals are not good. We've been doing CPR but it's not working. What do you want to do doctor?" One of the nurses say.

Derek just stood there looking at Ms. Timbers pale body. "Let her go." Derek says.

The nurses stopped and her heart stopped beating. "Time of death 11:13 a.m." Derek says walking out of the room.

Locker Room

"No! She was fine when I checked up on her! She was just fine!" Derek yelled.

"Derek calm down." Christina says. "Calm down. We knew it was risky, but things happen Derek. Go home and rest."

"Fine." Derek says and leaves.
