Bilbo Baggins was having a downright miserable day. The heavy downpour of rain had ruined his phone, but not before his relatives could finish nagging him. If it were up to him, he would still be curled up inside his quaint home in the Shire District with a warm fire going and a good book in his hand.

But when did Bilbo ever get to make his own decisions?

Instead, he found himself roaming aimlessly through the streets of the Mountain District looking for the elusive 'Erebor Coffee House'. Gandalf, an old friend of Bilbo's, had told him to meet him at the shop on a matter of grave urgency. Despite his desperate pleas to meet at his home, Bilbo now found himself lost in the wet streets of the unknown district.

Through the mist of the rain, Bilbo spotted a swinging sign that read 'Erebor Coffee House'. With a sigh of relief, he dashed towards the shop and rushed in the door. It was not a large coffee shop, but it was not small either. Unlike many of the buildings in the Shire District, it had an industrial and sturdy feel to it. The large stone walls had beautiful carvings chiseled into them. Looking down, it seemed that the floor was made of pure gold, but the rational side of Bilbo quickly dismissed the outlandish thought.

"Can I get you anything, lad?" one of the workers asked. Bilbo snapped his head in the direction of the voice. In all honesty, he had forgotten that it was customary to order something in a shop as opposed to just standing in the doorway.

"No, I'm alright, thank you," Bilbo quickly answered. "I'm just going to meet an old friend."

"Suit yourself," the man said.

Bilbo sat down at one of the many empty tables and waited for Gandalf to arrive, but his wait would be in vain. Gandalf had called Bilbo to cancel the plans, but since his phone was ruined from the rain, Bilbo never received the message. Instead, he waited in silence just watching the rain fall outside the window and listening to the boisterous laughter from the kitchen.

Though he did not want to pry, Bilbo found himself observing the workers. Dwalin, the one who had addressed Bilbo when he first came in, seemed to be in charge of the small coffee shop. He spent most of his time behind the cash register telling the others to stop fooling around. The victims of Dwalin's scolding were the two young men named Fili and Kili. Bilbo noticed that the brothers would steal a pastry or two from the display when Dwalin wasn't watching. Despite the complete lack of manners, Bilbo found himself enjoying the antics between the three.

"I don't think your friend is showin' up," Kili said as he plopped down next to Bilbo. The poor man jumped at the sound of the voice that was suddenly so close to him. "You've been sitting here for nearly an hour."

"Oh my!" Bilbo exclaimed. "Has it been that long already?"

"Don't feel bad," Kili said. "A girl once sat in here from start to finish trying to get Fili's attention. It was rather funny honestly."

"Easy for you to say," Fili said as he sat on the other side of Bilbo. "It was bloody uncomfortable for me. Can you imagine having someone stare at you for ten hours straight?"

"I can't say I have," Bilbo answered meekly.

"It is awful. I would never wish it upon my worst enemy," Fili shuddered. "So who were you supposed to be meeting here?'

"Fili! Don't pry!" Dwalin shouted from the other side of the store. "You don't even know his name. Why would you expect him to tell you his business?"
