chapter twenty

Pyre paused for a second. "What do you mean, mine by blood? I wasn't even a soldier before this war, I was a hunter. how did I earn this honour?"

"The medical personnel did some dna tests while you were out. you are the most closely related to the last king and queen before they died. Only the doctors and i know the results, but you now have a choice to make. The throne is yours, should you want it."

As Pyre touched the hammer, it seemed to change into a huge sword, still majestic in all ways. It's splendor was unparalelled, it's glow blinding. The glow then dimmed until it seemed to take light and absorb it, darkening the room until midnight darkness spread like a night sky. Pyre stared at the blade, his purple eyes illuminating the area even through the shroud of darkness. "I cannot bear this burden alone. will you help me carry it?" Pyre said quietly to Frostbite. 

"To the end of my life."

                                                                            A couple months later

"We need to show the hybrids compassion, not cold steel. How can we bring them into society without dealing with some racism?" His sword gently siphoning light, Pyre spoke with the confidence of a king. "Perhaps we could just make them swear they wont do anything stupid and put them on probation? Make sure they don't kill anyone?" A voice from the other side of the room said. It sounded like it was worth a shot. They needed people to help recover from the centuries long war, and the hybrids had survived it pretty well given that they were the cause of it. Perhaps they could be taught to accept their errors and overcome their pasts, or maybe they have already done that.

Eventually, Pyre's daughter and her siblings were born. She was a normal hybrid, maybe a little on the more draconic side. Pyre was... overprotective to say the least. Ember had died during labor, and now they were all he had to remember her through the eons.
