Guilt

The guilt is overwhelming me
suffocating and consuming
sometimes I think this is all i'll ever be.

My guilt is the axe
that came down on Queen Mary of Scots
unrelenting and unfinished
blunt and painful.

My guilt is the pain of Daedalus
as he lost his son
to his own invention
unyielding and undoing.

My guilt is the gas
that doomed the Jews
horribly deranged
sick and frightening.

My guilt is that of a man who starts a war
that he cannot finish
crushing and dejecting.

The guilt is me
and I the guilt
for it's all I've ever felt.
