Erin Reagan's POV
"I can't find my iPod." My older daughter Nicky says upon entering my room where I'm getting ready. My twelve year old biological niece/adoptive daughter Rosemary Margaret Reagan was sitting on my bed fidgeting with my bedsheets. My oldest brother Adam Reagan abused Rosemary her entire life until I legally adopted her a few months ago. Rosemary's autistic, has both auditory and sensory processing disorders, has asthma, is hard of hearing, and has type one diabetes.
"In the kitchen. And the skirt, really?" Nicky sighs before looking at Rosemary.
"You look so pretty Rosemary." Nicky says with a soft smile. Rosemary looks up at Nicky, her blue eyes eyes wide in amazement at the compliment. Joe and mom would have loved Rosemary if they were still alive. Joe would have definitely killed Adam for what he did to Rosemary and mom would have showered her with all the love she had.
"Thank you." Rosemary quietly says before standing up and the three of us leave my room before heading out of the house. Rosemary gets into the back seat while Nicky and I sit in the front seats before I begin driving to the the police academy graduation ceremony.
"Rosemary, if you're feeling overwhelmed let me know."
"Yes Mommy." Rosemary says when we arrive at the convention centre and get out of the car. The three of us entered the convention centre and headed towards our designated spots. Rosemary had her hand on her leg pinching it so I take her hand, causing her to look up at me with fear in her eyes. If I ever see Adam again I may kill him myself for making my little girl have so much fear in her heart.
"You're not in trouble angel. Mommy just doesn't want you to hurt yourself. You can squeeze my hand instead." Rosemary nods when my father Frank Reagan, begins presenting the graduates.
"It is with profound praise and gratitude that I welcome you new police officers, proud that you have answered the call to service and today join the ranks of New York's finest. You have earned the distinction of being the best trained, the most vibrant city in the world, where every day brings a responsibility to keep all New Yorkers safe-- safe from crime... and safe from terrorism. And though the city is on the very cutting edge of technology, nothing... replaces your unwavering sense of right and wrong and your eyes and ears on the street. And we remain safe because of the hard work and dedication of the men and women of the New York City Police Department. Every day, you will be responsible for the safety of all New Yorkers from crime and terrorism. And while this city is at the forefront of technological advances, nothing can replace your unwavering sense of right and wrong, nor can there be a substitute for your eyes and ears on our streets. The safety of all of us is the result of the hard work and dedication of the men and women who make up the police force of this great city. We now wear the same uniform, we wear the same badge. You are now part of the greatest police force in the world. Congratulations to your families, and your friends, and to each and every one of you. Welcome, young New York City police officers." Dad says before all the young officers throw their gloves into the air and congratulate each other. Rosemary buries her head into my side due to the loud noise and Nicky looks at her concerned.
