One week.
Just one *terrifying* week until my midterm exams, and I was drowning. I mean, really, if someone could win an award for being clueless, I'd be holding the trophy right now. And to top it all off? Economics. My arch-nemesis, the bane of my existence, the cruelest subject ever invented by humankind.
It wasn't that I hadn't tried. I had! But no matter how many times I read those stupid chapters, everything just blurred into a bunch of complicated words. Demand, supply, GDP... ugh. Why did anyone care about this? Why couldn't college exams be about something useful like how to come up with romantic scenarios for your imaginary boyfriend? I'd ace that.
I groaned, my head hitting the stack of books piled up on the dining table. The house was quiet, save for the ticking of the clock on the wall. It was the kind of stillness that made you realize how alone you were in your misery.
"You're going to dent the table if you keep doing that."
I lifted my head just enough to see Ved standing in the doorway, leaning against the frame with his usual unreadable expression. His eyes flicked down to my books, and I could already tell what was coming.
"Studying for exams?"
"More like contemplating throwing all my notes out the window and running away to join a circus," I muttered, sitting up and rubbing my temples. "Economics is killing me. I don't understand a single thing."
Ved raised an eyebrow, stepping closer. "You've been sitting here for hours."
"Yeah, and I still have no idea what the difference between inflation and deflation is. And don't even get me started on the law of diminishing returns." I sighed dramatically. "Why couldn't I just be a genius?"
Ved chuckled softly, pulling out the chair next to me and sitting down. "You're being a bit dramatic, don't you think?"
I gave him a side-eye. "This is serious, Ved. If I fail economics, my life is over. My dad will never let me hear the end of it, and I'll have to drop out of college and sell pani puri for a living."
"Pani puri, huh?" Ved said, amused. "Well, at least I know you'd have the best stall in town."
I glared at him, but I couldn't help the small smile tugging at my lips. "Not helping."
He sighed, glancing at the books. "Alright, show me what you've got. Maybe I can help."
I blinked at him. "You know economics?"
"I don't know ?" he said, picking up one of my notes and flipping through it.
Great.
I slumped in my chair. "I don't know if even you can help me at this point."
"Let's give it a shot." Ved's voice was calm, but there was a playful glint in his eyes.
I couldn't help the little flutter in my chest at his words, but I brushed it off, grabbing my notebook and flipping to the dreaded chapter.
