Charlie was just about to make her way out of the kitchen, coffee in hand, chewing on a cookie she had gotten and much more relaxed than she had been before. That was until someone had the audacity to run into her and make her spill the coffee all over her sweater, staining its green colour with its black color.
"Oh, come on, it took me almost half an hour to get this coffee," she complained, looking at the almost empty cup in her hands. The stain could be washed out, but she wasn't sure if the house elves would give her another mug of coffee.
"Shit, sorry," Sirius apologised, looking down at the coffee stain on the blonde's shirt. He didn't mean to do this.
However, as Sirius was just about to take out his wand to hex the stain away, he realised something. Nobody besides him and his mates should know where the kitchen was located, so how was it possible that this girl was there?
Then he realised another thing: this girl was the one his thoughts had been racing around just moments ago.
"How did you get into the kitchen?" he asked, his tone harsh. How did this girl manage to uncover all of their secrets if she hadn't been at Hogwarts for a full month yet? Sirius already began to dislike her.
Charlie looked at him as if he were crazy. "I used my legs and walked here, duh."
Okay, this was not the answer he wanted, both of them knew that but Charlie found it funny to see his expression darken, an irritated frown contorting his features.
"No shit, Sherlock," Sirius responded. If he didn't get some coffee soon he would kill someone, preferably the Slytherin in front of him. "How did you find out how to get into the kitchen?"
"You have your ways of knowing things and I have mine, Black," Charlie told him, "Now, if you'll excuse me, I need to get a new mug of coffee, because someone spilled mine."
Without another word, she turned around, tickled the pear and went back into the kitchen.
Sirius could only sigh and follow her, even if his pride told him to do anything but. His desire for coffee was just stronger.
The two stood in silence side by side, waiting for Dilbert, the elf, to bring them their coffee.
Not able to stand this silence any longer, Sirius decided to break it. "What's your business with Evans?"
He had his suspicions. Maybe this Slytherin that had just appeared out of nowhere, was a death eater in reality and wanted to harm the muggle-born girl; and Sirius sure wouldn't let that happen, even if his best friend weren't the one to have a huge crush on said girl.
"She's fun and promised to help me get revenge on you all for my hair, so I like her," Charlie responded nonchalantly, not really wanting this conversation to continue.
"No bad intentions?" Sirius inquired, even though he knew it was useless. If she wanted to harm Lily, she surely wouldn't tell him, so his question was just there to fill the silence. He hated it when it was too quiet, it reminded him of home, or rather the place he used to live in before he ran away this summer.
Charlie looked at him in disbelief. She knew the relationships between the houses weren't the best right now, but she had hoped that they would at least trust each other a little bit. Lily seemed to not mind her being a Slytherin at all, she even had another friend there.
"Of course not. The only one I harbour ill intentions towards is you and your little gang. Besides, just because I'm in Slytherin, doesn't mean I have to be an asshole," she set straight, before turning away from him again.
Finally, Dilbert returned, balancing two mugs of coffee in his tiny hands. Charlie took hers out of his hand, thanked him with a head pat and turned around, wanting to do nothing but leave the presence of Sirius Black.
However, she wasn't quite finished with him yet. Spinning around she said one last thing to him before leaving for her first class of the day, which she coincidentally had to share with the Gryffindors.
"Oh, and just because you're in Gryffindor doesn't mean that you're better than any of us. From what Lily has told me you and your little friend group are actually worse than most Slytherins, with your bullying and all."
Standing still, Sirius watched her leave. He hadn't even heard her last words, or rather he overheard them intentionally, but was still shocked by this girl and how unusual she was.
Had he not seen her pat a house-elf on the head, something no one, not even the people from other houses would consider doing? Was she not a Slytherin, a member of the house which was too proud to even look at half-bloods and muggle-borns? How come she so easily did all those things without even thinking twice?
Sirius needed to seriously observe her, if not he might go crazy with all the theories already forming in his head. Furthermore, he probably wouldn't be able to sleep soundly if he didn't observe her, uncertain if she would reveal Remus' secret.
With a glance at his watch, Sirius made a mental note to run his newfound discoveries by his mates before doing anything (major) and practically ran out of the kitchen, having downed the coffee in one gulp.
Minnie would kill him if he was late to yet another Transfiguration class.
HOPE speaks!
