Chapter 2

Subaru was able to move around with Emilia's help quite easily. And by help I mean-

"This still feels both embarrassing and Nice.." Subaru mumbled to himself as Emilia Carried him over to a rather short but wide table that had been long set up in the center of the small house.

"Embarrassing?.. is it because of something I did?.. or did I forget something?.." She asked worried that something was wrong. "N-No.. it's just.. I guess I just feel embarrassed because I can't even walk in the first place.." He admitted.

"Well.. I'd rather have you be able to walk too.. but I can't say that I don't like carrying you around.." She said awkwardly looking away.

"Yeah.. I get it.." She said as she thought to herself. *I'm going to treasure every moment of holding him like this..* And gently set him down at the table even though she would've liked to hold him longer.

Subaru noticed her expression.
It was oddly familiar. One that felt like it was Somehow full of both Happiness and.. Guilt?. Subaru Pretended not to notice and started to speak. "So I know it's been a few days but I forgot to ask.. What kind of things do you do around here?.. If you're walking around the forest then you probably just collect some wood for a fire?.. Or do you have to go hunting?" He asked while imitating a hunter pulling back a bowstring.

She faintly remembered a taller elf-like figure holding up a bow in a similar manner, with his expression and hand placements aligning almost perfectly. She couldn't help but giggle a bit and said "I don't really go hunting.. I collect mana stones from in the forest and sell them to a village just a little bit away from here. I also keep an eye out for the people who show up here.." She said Thinking to herself slightly bothered at another new thought.

Meanwhile Subaru was shocked. "You.. don't do anything?.. then.. How have you not died of boredom?.. I thought you were only staying here to take care of me but.. you just.. don't leave?.." It shocked her how he reacted.

"It's not that bad!.. I Had Puck!.. and you now!.." She tried to defend herself. "Yeah yeah.. Excuses.." He teased while shaking his head in a way imititating someone disappointed. Emilia began to pout but Puck suddenly appeared from the crystal and she looked to him for backup.

"I have to agree with Subaru on this one, you really don't know how to have fun.. just work all day long.."

"Puuuuccckkk.."

A very short long time later.

Emilia could feel the uncomfortable stares and looks in the back of her head as she carried Subaru through the village. *Is he a witch cultist?.. The Half Devil seems to have brainwashed the kid.. Look at those nasty eyes, with that clothing and his hair he's probably a refugee she picked up from gusteko or kararagi..* The unsaid and unheard thoughts crept into her mind. She reached her destination, a shop ran by one of the villagers who she could actually somewhat talk too without being scorned or being ran away from. "Um.. It.. It's nice to see you again miss.." The Store Clerk said noticeably shaken. "W-Would you happen to need a new dress or boots?.. I- I can get them for you.." He said semi-oblivious to the slightly red-faced boy she was carrying. "I don't need any of that.. I just need some new clothes for my friend.."She said avoiding eye contact. "Y-Yes Sa.. Miss.. please wait over there.." He stuttered pointing to a bunch of chairs in the corner. She walked over and set Subaru into one of them before sitting in the closest one. "You weren't kidding.. these guys really don't like you.." Subaru said slightly shivering since Emilia was no longer keeping him entirely warm with her magic. "You've seen how the villagers treat me.. don't you think maybe you should be afraid too?.." She said quietly enough so he could barely hear. "Mili.." He started but they were interrupted. "Um.. Miss.. Sir.. I've brought The clothes.." The store keeper said holding out the neatly stacked clothes. A gray shirt and black cargo pants with a bunch of pockets. Some plain underwear and socks and worn out brown hiking boots along with a Black Jacket and gloves.
