Scarlett's Pov

“Watch how you speak to my mother, Scott!” Theo barked.

One thing I've noticed is that these men are very protective of their mom, with Theo being the most aggressive about it.

As if something suddenly snapped in Scott, he nodded, clearing his throat. “I apologize.”

Once he received a nod from Genesis for the acceptance of his apology, he spoke again. “I was just shocked since I wasn't informed of when he was caught and,” His gaze flicked to dad with distaste. “...how he ended up here.”

Suddenly dad lets out a mocking laugh. “If they deemed it important to tell you, you would’ve been informed.”

Scott’s features turned harsher. “Let’s not talk about importance. You're not the commander of the Canadian Mafia, I am.”

I knew it! This man looked too wickedly hot to not be involved in a criminal organization.

Dad's head snapped to Genesis in disbelief. “You fucking made him the commander?”

It was Scott's turn to send back the smirk wiped off of dad's face. If I had to make a wild- easy guess, then these two men don't get alone.

He could be just a colleague or Genesis’ close friend or maybe… he’s a love interest. Oh how I want my last option to be true. At least then I won't have to fear her seducing my father.

Genesis downed the last of her wine before answering, “Somebody had to fill your spot.”

His spot? Being the commander of a Mafia was my father's spot? He did such a job?

My gaze fixed on dad. I kept imagining him killing people and letting them suffer till their last breath. But I couldn't see him doing that. He was too nice for that.

But then again, I know nothing. I know what he wanted me to know.

“It didn't have to be him!” Dad argued.

“Don’t you dare question her decision. You're a nobody now. Remember your place.” Scott was furious as he looked at my father like he wanted to strangle him.

Dad narrowed his eyes with a mocking confusion on his face. “What place? I might not be the commander anymore, I'm still her husband.”

“You're not-”

“If you don't remember, we never took a divorce.”

The arrogance on dad’s face pissed him off. His jaw was clenched as he looked seconds away from launching his fists at someone.

More than him, I was angry. I guessed the relationship didn't end on a good note, they didn't have an opportunity to cancel their marriage because dad basically ran away.

But I hated the prospect of my dad still being connected to her. I hated the way he portrayed there were still chances of them getting together.

If I could I'd get him a divorce today. But the world doesn't work like that.

“It doesn't matter. She's moved-”

“Stop it both of you!” Genesis ordered looking like she's done with this shit. “We're not discussing this right now.”

“Well it is important to discuss it right now because you're basically having dinner with a traitor. Don't you remember he’s-”

“Enough!” Theo’s voice echoed in the dining room. “Scott, I respect you. But that respect doesn't give you the right to question my or my mother's decision. Elijah is sitting here with my permission. I'm the Don now, I decide what should be done in my family and this fucking country.”
