Chapter 3:
Grover unexpectedly loses his pants

Grover was freaking us out, muttering, "why does this always happen..." And "why does it always have to be sixth grade?"

And the weirdest thing was he wanted to make sure we both got home, which was weird, but Percy and I didn't live near each other, as far as I knew.
But after making us promise, he made a beeline for the bathroom, and after a few seconds of hesitation, Percy and I ditched him. Yes it was rude, but Grover was freaking us out
We slipped outside, said our goodbyes and got in separate taxis.
As the taxi drove to my apartment, I felt a mixture of feelings, anticipation, to see my mom after not seeing her for so long, but also fear, wondering what Grover feared.

My mom is a nurse, but she also runs a small band of close friends. My mom always wanted to quit her job as a nurse and become a full time musician, but for some reason  she stayed.
I think it's because of my father. She met my father working at the hospital, romantic right? But they clicked. He was a doctor, she was still in training, he taught her everything she now knows. And than he left, shortly after I was born. My mom always said he just transferred to a different hospital, and would come back, someday, but I had my doubts, this was eleven years ago, if he wasn't coming back than, he's not now.

I walked into our apartment, empty, which didn't surprise me, but it still made me a little sad, setting my suitcase in my room i headed back to the kitchen anf opened the fridge. Empty
Not unusual, working late nights shifts mon would typically order food, but she knew I was coming home today.
With a sigh I walked into her room and grabbed the money she leaves for emergencies., this wasn't really one, but I was hungry. She'll understand.

Once I got back. The sun had already begun to sink, reminding me of how long of a day I had.
After making a quick dinner, I sat in the couch absently flicking though tv channels.

[Hello summer] I thought sarcastically
Someone knocked on the door, but not one of those polite knocks, this was borderline banging

"Alright, alright I'm coming, hold your horses." I grumbled heading over to the door, but before I opened it I ordered though the peephole.

[Grover?]

I opened the door. "What are you doing here? How do you know where I live?!"

His eyes were wide and panicked. "There's no time to explain! We have to hurry!'

"Grover, what are you talking about about?"

"Cora, come on!"

I paused something about his tone made me want to listen

"How long are we gonna be out? Do I need a bag? Can I at least message my mom?"

Grover gives an agitated sigh. "Pack a backpack, I'll write a note."

"Fine." With a huff I undo the security latch and let him in, than hurried to my room where I packed a bag

Toiletries, clothes, wallet? Sweater.... I looked at my nightstand than grabbed the framed photo of my mother ajd her bandmates.

"Cora! Let's GO!" Grover called out

What happened to the timid boy from Yancy?

Grover offered no explanation to why and how her showed up at my house, but he pulled (dragged was a better word) me into a taxi and told the driver to head to Montauk.
"Grover just explain, something." I asked for what felt like the hundredth time
He sighs. "People are after you and Percy, I'm taking you somewhere safe."
