Huey woke up later than he wanted because he knew everybody was already awake except for Jazmine, who was next to him, fast asleep. He had forgotten she was even here and sighed when he saw her. He remembered vaguely being woken up in the middle of the night. Huey felt a bit embarrassed for himself for once but blamed it on Riley. He ain't know if Riley even did anything (he did), but the odds weren't against it. "Jazmine, wake up," He said, shaking her shoulder. She groaned and swatted him away, "Go awayyyyy!" "Suit yourself." Huey shrugged and walked downstairs, part of him feeling bad about letting Jazmine waste her day away by sleeping, but that was her choice, not his. "You finally awake boy, I thought yo ass was dead!" Grandad shouted as he poured himself a glass of juice. "And you didn't think to check if I was?" Huey rolled his eyes. "Why the hell you always so mad?" Riley laughed as he ate a bite of cereal and Huey shook his head, exhaustedly. "Riley, leave that boy alone he just woke up!" Robert smiled and sat down at the table, sipping outta the glass. He glanced over to the couch, "What? You too good to eat my cooking now? I woulda thought yo ass would be against wasting food, always talking sum bullshit." "But I get in trouble for messing wit Huey's miserable ass and you don't?" Riley frowned, moving his spoon around in the milk. "I ain't messing with him, I'm just asking a genuine question, which I have the right to do," Robert said. "So was I..." Riley mumbled and narrowed his eyes. "Shut up! I'm not hungry."

Jaz came down the stairs, her hair was a bit messy and she looked mad tired. "Morning, Mr. Freeman," She forced a smile. "Ah, c'mon and eat. There's enough food!" Riley smirked, Huey was staring at Jazmine. "For being so stern and shi, you bein' madddddd obvious," he shouted. Jazmine was getting herself food and Grandad looked around at the 3 teenagers. "Riley, go somewhere before I beat yo ass." "I'D LIKE TO SEE YOU TRY, MUTHAFUCKA!" Huey got up from the couch and walked over to his little brother. When he turned 14, he grew up real quick, but when Riley reached that age, he ain't grow nearly as much as his older brother. Huey was always mature, at least mentally, but now he was much taller and much more attractive. He was talented at anything he did and Riley knew for a fact, he could NOT beat him in a fight anymore. "Keep talking shit," Huey said under his breath so only Riley could hear as he grabbed his shoulders. "Don't do this again!" Jazmine pleaded as Grandad shook his head. "Don't you boys be breakin' nothing in my damn house!" He got outta his chair and headed upstairs. "Look, it was a joke. Ion know why you so mad!" "You know damn well why I'm mad. Stop it." Jazmine was trying to split them up but she could only look at Huey with admiration. "So, you done?" he asked seriously, tilting his head. "She don't know," Riley explained. "Know what? Are you guys talking about me?" Huey sighed, "We ain't." At the same time Riley spoke, "Yea, we are." Jazmine was only looking at the taller boy, "Please, let him go!" He let go harshly, sending Riley stumbling back into the table. "Oh nah..." Riley ran back up to Huey, grabbing him by the shirt to turn him around. He yanked him down and punched him in the face. The only reason Riley was able to strike an attack was because he got him off-guard. He knew that wasn't fair but he ain't care. "HUEY!" Jaz ran over to him as Huey held his face with one of his hands. "You fucking bitch," he said through gritted teeth. "Don't push me!" Riley yelled, but Huey grabbed the back of his bonnet and ripped it off before he could run away. "OWWW!" Riley shouted in pain, turning around to face his older brother. His curls covered his face, but Huey knew he was scared. "That's all I'm doing. Go away." He tossed his bonnet back to him, wiping the blood off himself. Riley snatched that shit out Huey's hands and stomped off.

Jaz passed him some paper towels, "You okay?" Huey took them and nodded, "Yea, I'm good. He caught me off-guard cause he's a lil bitch and can't fight me properly." She listened, agreeing softly. "But what was he talking about, 'she don't know'?" Jaz asked. "Nothing, it's pointless." "Huey, your emotions aren't pointless", "Yea! They are! Cause it ain't gon get me nowhere but more pain. The world's already fucked up and you ain't helping. Go read a book or something! Just get out my damn face!" He yelled. Jazmine felt herself on the verge of crying again, "Why do you always have to be such an asshole when I care about you?" Huey shook his head, "Cause you can't help. I thought I done told you to go away." "Okay, cool. I see how it is. Don't ever come crying to me, Huey Freeman!" She pointed a finger in his face and slipped on her shoes. Jaz exhaled and opened the door. "Gimme my shirt back!" She flipped him off, causing him to roll his eyes. "Whatever."

The door slammed and Huey sat by himself. He just couldn't be happy, couldn't be okay with enjoying himself while others suffered. But he didn't realize he was just wasting his own life away.

------Riley sat in his room staring at the wall. He and Huey had been fighting a lot more recently. He ain't think it could be his fault, it had to be Huey's. Come to think of it, he did seem a lot more irritatable recently. Riley felt a little bad, he decided he'd stop bothering him. "Man, I shouldn't have punched his bitch ass...now he not gon talk to me for a week." he muttered as he spun around in his desk chair, wrapping his hair around his fingers. His thoughts was interrupted when he heard sounds from the window, making him get out his chair and go investigate the cause. "What the fuck?" He tilted his head, seeing Jazmine running to her house, wiping her arm against her eyes. "Whose gon braid my hair now!" He shook his head and decided to go downstairs. After seeing his older brother, Riley forced himself to say, "I'm sorry." Huey ignored him. "I said I'm sorry!" "Ok."

"What, you gon stay mad forever now? You punched me mad times!"

"It ain't about the fight." "Then what is it?" Huey shook his head, "Nothin, its cool." "Whatever." Riley rolled his eyes and went back upstairs.

-----The next morning, Grandad came upstairs to wake the boys up for school. Riley was pissed about going without his hair braided so he had to put on the flyest fit to make up for it (his hair literally looked fine he js cray LMAO). Robert entered the next room over, "You got school today, wake up," He said softly. Huey had hardly gotten any sleep, he felt like shit. And quite frankly, he didn't wanna see Jazmine. "Can I stay home?" He asked tiredly, propping himself up on the bed with his elbows. "No! You not sick, get your ass up and ready. Yo brother tried the same shit." Huey sighed, "But I don't feel good." "Well, what's wrong?" Robert blinked, waiting to hear sum bullshit. "I couldn't sleep and I felt tired and nauseous." "You upset about Jazmine?" "What? No!" He shouted embarrassedly, "Where would you even get an idea like that..." "Riley told me she ran outta the house cryin. Only you make that poor girl cry." Grandad said, making Huey groan. And he thought he couldn't feel worse. "No, that ain't why! I just don't feel good. Please." The old man shook his head, "I said you got school. Its yo junior year, you can't be missing days, boy!" "Please, Grandad. I never ask to stay home!" "Yeah, yeah. Here how bout this, you go today, see how you feel. If you still feel bad, I can pick you up. Okay? And don't lie either!" Huey nodded, taking off his covers.

Robert shut the door and walked down the steps.

Huey sighed, putting on a hoodie and black jeans (they BAGGY, my boy is NOT wearing skinny jeans). He picked out the first clothes he could find. All he had to do is get through 2-3 periods and then call Robert to pick him up. The only problem was that he had most his classes with Jaz. He looked like SHIT today but he didn't care. It was almost like he lost sight of his beliefs and his main concern was just getting through two periods.

The Freeman brothers walked to the bus stop and just barely made it in time. They didn't speak, putting in headphones as soon as they sat down, ignoring eachother. Jazmine got on the bus 10 seconds after. She glanced at them and sighed, and found a new seat towards the back. The driver drove off as other kids got situated. Shortly after, they arrived at their highschool. Huey was first off and rushed to his first period, and Riley went to the cafeteria to go try and finesse the lunch ladies into giving him free snacks.

Jazmine entered the classroom, noting Huey's unusual appearance. She still managed to put effort into how she looked which pissed him off and she ain't even know it. But clearly, there was something wrong with him. He was actually, genuinely, normally sad for once about something stupid. And he seemed sick. She felt a little bad but looked away before he could catch her staring. Jazmine reminisced on the events that got them there and was left with a familiar feeling of pain and longing. She tried to level her breathing as she got out her pens and pencils. Huey ,from the last row, was slumped in his chair and watched Jazmine organize herself. He didn't even know if he was mad at her or himself. He just hated the whole situation and hated the fact he was vulnerable. God, he couldn't wait until Grandad picked him up.
