The Saturday after getting back from their week at Martha's Vineyard, Logan and Rory found themselves in Lorelai and Luke's house for a pizza and movie night, although the movie would wait until the kids were in bed.
"Luke, you don't like the beach?" Logan asked.
"I don't like sand" Luke said. "It gets everywhere, all over everything"
"That's the good thing about going in March" Rory said. "The sand is basically solid"
"Why did you go to the beach if you couldn't play at the beach?" Andrew asked. "It's not fun if you don't get to play"
"Because adults don't need to play" Rory said. "We went for walks, and we cooked really nice dinners, and we watched movies by the fireplace-" she was interrupted by the doorbell ringing. "I'll get it" she said and got up. She opened the door to see a man she didn't recognize. "Can I help you?"
"Um...I uh- Lorelai Gilmore lives here, right?" He asked.
"Yeah. Do you need me to get her?" Rory asked.
"Please"
"Just a second" Rory said. She walked a few feet away from the door to where she could see into the living room. "Mom, someone's asking for you"
Lorelai got up and as soon as she got to where Rory was standing and saw who was at the door, she froze. "Rory, go back into the living room"
"Who is that?" Rory asked.
"I'll explain later" Lorelai said. Once Rory walked away, Lorelai went over to the door. "No"
"No?"
"No, Christopher" Lorelai said. "I don't know why you're here, I don't care, I don't want to hear it"
"Please" Christopher said. "5 minutes"
"On the porch" Lorelai said as she stepped outside, closing the door behind her.
"Lor-"
"No, I'm talking first" Lorelai said. "You have a 20 year old daughter who you never even bothered to ask about. Not once. You left me alone to have a baby and raise her on my own. I just wanted to remind you what we're talking about before you start trying to apologize"
"I was 16"
"So was I" Lorelai said. "Next"
"That was her?"
"That was her"
"Can I talk to her?"
"That's not up to me" Lorelai said. "It's her decision to make"
"What did you tell her about me?" Christopher asked. "When she was growing up"
"The truth. We were teenagers, we were together, I got pregnant, and...you wanted nothing to do with it. You left. I never lied to her. If she asked a question, she got an answer"
"Can I talk to her?"
"I need to talk to her first"
"I'll wait"
Lorelai went back inside and stood just outside the living room.
"Mom, you ok?" Rory asked. "You look like you saw a ghost"
"Interesting choice of words" Lorelai said. "Come talk to me in the kitchen?"
Rory got up and followed Lorelai's into the kitchen. "What's going on?"
"There's someone on the porch...who wants to talk to you"
"Same guy who was at the door?" Rory asked. "Who was that, by the way?"
