The evening sun cast its dying light through the half-drawn curtains, the shadows flickering across the room as the tension between you and Sasuke hung thick in the air. The argument still echoed in your mind, the weight of unspoken words pressing down on you like an iron vice. Sasuke was usually the calm one, the stoic figure by your side, but today had been different.

You sat at the edge of the bed, wearing nothing but a pair of shorts and a loose t-shirt, the chill of the night creeping in through the open window. Sasuke hadn't even looked at you since the argument ended, his body turned away from you, his head lowered as he stared down at his phone. Normally, he would've been the one to pull you into his arms after a fight, to smooth things over with his quiet words and reassuring touch. But not tonight.

Your heart ached as you glanced over at him, hoping that maybe, just maybe, he would glance back, that he would acknowledge your presence. But nothing. He continued tapping away at his phone, his face expressionless. It was as if you weren't even there.

The argument had been about kids, again. It was a topic that had come up more frequently lately, and this time, it had reached a breaking point. You had always dreamed of having children, of raising a family with Sasuke, of building a life that extended beyond just the two of you. But Sasuke had always been hesitant, closed off to the idea. He had his reasons, of course—his own upbringing, his complicated past, and the burden of responsibility that had weighed on his shoulders for so long. But it didn't make it any easier to accept.

"Is this it, then?" you whispered, breaking the silence. "You're just going to ignore me now?"

There was no immediate response. Sasuke's fingers stilled on his phone, his body rigid, but he still didn't turn to face you. You swallowed hard, trying to push down the lump that had formed in your throat. It hurt more than you expected it to, this distance between the two of you.

You loved him. You admired him. Even now, as he lay there in silence, his sharp features cast in the warm glow of the setting sun, you couldn't help but feel drawn to him. His raven-black hair framed his face, the single eye visible from your angle reflecting the fading light, and yet there was a coldness there that chilled you to the core.

"I just don't understand, Sasuke," you said softly, your voice barely above a whisper. "Why don't you want this? Why don't you want a family with me?"

Finally, Sasuke shifted, his body rolling onto his back as he stared up at the ceiling. His phone dropped onto the mattress beside him, and for a moment, the silence stretched between you like a canyon.

"It's not that I don't want a family with you," he said at last, his voice low and measured. "It's... complicated."

Your eyes narrowed, frustration bubbling up inside of you. "Complicated? How is it complicated? There are options, Sasuke. We can adopt, or we can find a surrogate. We've talked about this before."

"I know," he replied, his gaze still fixed on the ceiling, his hands resting on his chest. "But it's not that simple. You don't understand what you're asking for."

Your fists clenched at your sides, the tension in the room growing unbearable. "I do understand. I understand that I want a family with you. I understand that I want to build a future together, one that includes children. But you keep shutting me out, and I don't know why."

Sasuke's jaw tightened, and for a moment, you thought he was going to get up and leave the room. But instead, he closed his eyes, letting out a deep breath that seemed to carry the weight of the world with it.

"I'm afraid," he admitted, his voice barely audible.

That single word cut through the air like a knife, and you felt your heart skip a beat.
